138w ago - Today garyopa at PSX-Scene.com (linked above) reports that Sony appears to be targeting the PS JailBreak, PSFreedom and PSGroove related PS3 hacks and has shared numerous court documents for those interested.
From one of the documents, to quote: "Similarly targeted document subpoenas or deposition notices to any other third party who SCEA learns may be involved in the distribution or sale of the PS Jailbreak software, known as, for example, PSGroove, OpenPSJailbreak, and PSFreedom, or who may have knowledge of the distribution or sale of this illicit software."
PS3 hacker Mathieulh is also mentioned in one of the documents as recently proclaiming to be one of 20 individuals behind PSGroove, to quote: "Mathieu Hervais told BBC News he was one of about 20 hackers involved in PSGroove's development."
Just under a month ago Sony was granted an injunction by Australian Courts on the sale of PSJailBreak PS3 modchips, followed by blocking PS JailBreak and PS3 proxy methods with the release of the PS3 Firmware 3.42 update, so only time will tell what their next move is.

Sony is just trying to pick up an old Bill Gates M$ strategy/policy - Fear, Uncertainty and Doubt (FUD). They can and will go after preflashed units like PSJailbreak etc, but are trying to generate enough ruckus to slow down homebrew. Let's see how the scene responds.
Never understood America. Land of the free and all. People can even buy guns there. And then you sue McDonald if your coffee is too hot, lol. Dont have to be proven guilty to be guilty. Just because you buy a crowbar it dosnt mean you are going to use it to break into other people houses.
You buy a ps3 and a ps3 game. You now own these items. You can set them on fire or smash em to bits. But if you make a backup of your original game and play it then you are a evil pirate hacker.
I'm just happy i live in a country where guns arnt allowed, but premodded consoles are allowed because the law clearly says we can make/play copies of anything we own.
How can sony sue over anything that does not contain their code or copy-written information? This is BS and I hope the courts stand up to the big corporations and look out for the little guys. They are doing everything they can, but I hope it bites them in the ass in the end. There only concern now is stop stop "piracy" at the cost of taking away end-users functionality, ie. OtherOS and 3rd party USB support.
Using Sony's logic: I think Sony should be sued by game developers for the sale of a device that allows piracy. There are still new PS3's (v3.41) on the shelf that allow this, correct? Hence they are facilitating the alleged piracy.
This is of course an idiotic idea but so is naming 1-100 John Doe's in a lawsuit.
