Here is a program I created called Simple AVCHD Manager v0.1 based on Open Manager and for use on JailBroken PS3 consoles.

Download: Simple AVCHD Manager v0.1 for PS3

From the ReadMe File: "Based on Open Manager. Thanks to all who have been involved with creating and fixing it.

This is for use with USB devices that contain directories of movies processed with the windows AVCHD manager, it allows the selection of the movie for viewing under the XMB with subtitles if available.

If you dont know how to get your videos into AVCHD format use google.

Functions

• Scans connected USB devices for folders processed by the windows AVCHD Manager.
• Any current AVCHD folder is automatically changed to the movie name as defined in details.txt.
• Changes the selected movie directory name to AVCHD to allow playback through XMB.
• Displays custom cover/screenshot icon "ICON0.PNG" if present in the movie directory. Resolution up to 320x176 supported.
• Allows deletion of movie directories.
• No FTP or copy mode as I do not see the point when you can just connect your usb device to the pc and copy files that way.
• No ability to copy to internal drive as AVCHD files do not work from there.
• This is only version 0.1 as there is more work needed to the code to remove unnecessary portions."

I have not used multiAVCHD for a while, but I did like the different menu styles that were possible. Does it create a file detailing what is in the compilation?

I can look into reading this to display the compilation contents on the SAM menu. Currently the only way to show it would be to process the compilation through windows AVCHDmanager to generate the details.txt file, the current version of SAM only displays the 1st entry.

This app manages avchd structured files (for fat32 4gig limit) using the ps3 pkg to rotate default avchd folder on root.

Multiavchd is another to create compilations.

AVCHD are .MTS its a Sony format and I believe it can be played out the box. So I don't understand the need for this.

Just noticed a small bug which will be fixed in the next version.

When you go back into the manager after selecting a video it will show 2 entries for this video, exiting without selecting a video and then going back in shows all entries correctly.

No source will be released for now as i want to tidy it up and fix bugs first.

For those who think this is a media player. It is not, as its name states, it is only a manager for avchd folders. The PS3 has had the ability to play the contents of the AVCHD folder on USB devices for some time now.
