Rumor: 3K3y - PS3Key (ODD) XKey for PS3 Consoles is Incoming

Sponsored Links
120w ago - Following up on the previous Blu-ray drive emulation rumor, today modrobert has announced that 3K3y, a PS3Key (ODD) - essentially an XKey for PS3 - is incoming shortly with some preliminary details outlined below.

Still can't get too excited at requiring additional hardware to play PS3 games with the advent of PlayStation 3 Custom Firmware a few years ago though.

To quote from EurAsia (linked above): I just got word from a well known team that will make PS3 owners happy!

Watching the video and drooling!! With those few words I hope to keep you interested...

Below is a picture (via facebook.com/x360key) as well.

More info while waiting for the video: In order to retrieve the needed BD drive key, Team 3k3y (aka xk3y) will release a PS3 software tool which requires CFW 3.55, after the key is dumped the PS3 can be upgraded to latest official system update (firmware/XMB) to get PSN etc.

The team is exploring other options to dump the required key as well, more on that later.

I'm relatively sure it does support original discs as well, but will confirm it anyway. Pretty much same functionality as xkey.

For now, any PS3 model that can be downgraded to CFW 3.55 will be supported, this is only to retrieve the Blu-ray drive key, after that you can update as you want.

The 3k3y Team is researching other options to dump the required key as well, more on that later. For now you have to downgrade to (or be on) CFW 3.55 in order to get the unique BD drive key required by 3k3y, once you have the key the PS3 can be updated anyway you want, doesn't matter for 3key.

General tech info about 3k3y which is true for xkey as well:

The 3k3y hardware device is an advanced Optical Disc Drive (ODD) emulator, it does not rely on any software based hacks to operate (once the drive key is known).

The device is connected on the SATA (PATA) bus in the PS3, like this; cable from PS3 goes into 3key, cable to BD drive goes out from 3k3y, in other words 3k3y physically sits between the drive and the PS3 mainboard and offers USB 2.0 port to connect hard drive(s). Games residing on the connected hard drive(s) can be selected using a small remote display with buttons (as seen in the photo linked a few posts up reading "PS3" in white characters on the display).

For the PS3 this device appears as a legit BD drive, and replies to any ATA protocol requests/commands the same way the original drive does. The BD drive key which is unique in each PS3 makes it possible for 3k3y to decrypt/encrypt data on the fly and redirect SATA traffic originally on disc media from the hard drive connected via USB 2.0 instead. No original Blu-ray disc needs to be inserted for operation, you can use this without any disc in the drive.

Again, this makes it possible to use any official firmware (XMB) version you want after installation (and key retrieval). No need for software hacks like CFW or DEX to make this work at all. If the original game requires firmware (XMB) 4.25, then go ahead and update, just like you would if the system was completely original (virgin).

I hope this clears up any misunderstandings what 3k3y does, or what it requires.

If the CFW you use can load games on Blu-Ray from the BD drive today, then it will be able to do that from hard drive with 3k3y installed as well.

However, to my knowledge the Blu-ray Disc (BD) drive is not used with CFW, original game disc can be mounted for compatibility, but games are actually loaded from a hard drive connected to the USB port on PS3 or from the internal hard drive.

Simply put, whatever fails with the installed CFW will fail with 3key as well. That's the reason it is kind of pointless to use 3k3y with CFW, but makes a lot of sense to use OFW.

In summary:

  • The team for now is only releasing one picture regarding 3K3Y, but are hoping for an end of the year release.
  • It is full hardware interface, not a dongle, but currently you need CFW v3.55 to dump the BD drive key, after that you can update.
  • It will be complete ODD Blu-ray emulator, allowing even the feature to rip your original PS3 game discs to your external HDD.
  • Due to the nature of design, you will be required to open your PS3 to install it, but NO SOLDERING is needed.
  • More info will be release later, but for now any more pictures and videos are PRIVATE and been shown only to trusted long-time resellers.
  • In order to retrieve the needed BD drive key, Team 3k3y (aka xk3y) will release a PS3 util which requires CFW 3.55, after the key is dumped the PS3 can be upgraded to latest official system update (firmware/XMB) to get PSN etc. The team is exploring other options to dump the required key as well, more on that later.

Update: Below is a minor timeline update, as follows:

[21/10/12] 3k3y key dumper app! (pictured below)

Finally from bubba: You will need do some soldering with this ODE... If You want to get the keys from 4.31. SATA bus level For 25xx and newer models will need to be solder and to get the keys and play backups.

Tutorial: How Fix Error 80010017 with 3K3y Tools By Nicolas

Hi guys, i have many Games that have modified EBOOT (like Duplex or Other Dumper Scene Groups) and When i Converted them to ISO with genPS3iSO, i get Error 80010017 we have to Methods for Fix This Problem:

1: Download Originals EBOOT
2: use my Method

I tested all Games That get me error 80010017 with my Method and Now They working like Charm

Step 1: Download Tools that Need For Fixing This Error

We use applications that Created By 3k3y Team First application that we need is iSOTools v1.33:

Download: [Register or Login to view links]

Now download ODDE EBOOT Resigner that is created By harryoke

Download: [Register or Login to view links] by harryoke

Step 2: Check EBOOT with iSOTools

In this step we must check the signature if EBOOTs for this work , run iSOTools and select "Verify EBOOT.BIN" from Tools Menu

Now select the EBOOT of your Game, if Checking eboot.bin signature was OK your game is ok, just Create the that with genPS3iso and Play.

If Checking eboot.bin signature was Fail your must go to Step 3.

Step 3: Fix EBOOT For COBRA ODE

Copy eboot.bin signature that was Fail inside ODDE Eboot Resigner Folder, now run "run me.bat" and select "1"

Now your EBOOT is valid and you can test that again with iSOTools.

Now replace modified EBOOT with EBOOT inside USRDIR Folder and Create Game with genPS3ISO.

Enjoy!

3k3y IsoTools v1.33

Download: 3k3y_isotools_v1_33.zip

3k3y IsoTools (aka 3k3y Ripp3r v) installation setup for Windows. NOTE: This requires .NET 4.0. New in this release: Fixed issue with IRD creation from disc. Fixed crash when viewing IRD files.

Allow selection of network drives for IsoMenuCreator. Fixed a booboo when creating an IRD file while ripping. Fixed issue where discs without eboot.bin can't be created.

Finally, from modrobert: I've just started installing 3KR (3KS-R) in a PS3 Super Slim, the new soon to be released 3key solution which supports 4k, 3k, 2k5, 2k1 and 2k consoles in one main board.

This is the first time I've opened up a PS3 Super Slim, the hardware design is a bit cryptic with the weird shielding plates which also doubles as cooling elements, and it's pretty clear most of the design changes were done to make the console cheaper to manufacture.

Anyway, back to 3KR, compared to 3k3y 4k (3KS) most of the adapter logic has moved to the main board and the adapter is now reduced to a small passive PCB for the SATA soldering points as seen below.

Emulators are always good.. also a new version of 3K3y ODE is on the horizon, rough translation (via logic-sunrise.com/news-659056-le-pcb-slim-3k-du-3k3y-en-photo.html):

Good news for fans of the team waiting Xkey Slim version 3K3y. Well things are progressing as the PCB for Slim has just shown the tip of his nose. This is obviously the Slim 3000 version is presented and more information should emerge soon.

Article remains in pre-order LSstore while waiting for the final PCB. The team tells us that the availability for Slim 3k will be next week, and Slim in a small 2k fortnight. The Cobra is out worldwide, the 3k3y could be a suitable replacement.

For the impatient future (what we can understand when you see the production rate of some teams), the replacement of a cobra by 3k3y or vice versa will be done free of charge upon request to the store.

Also below from modrobert (via eurasia.nu/modules.php?op=modload&name=Forums&file=viewtopic&topic=6999&forum=99#32427) comes some 3K3y advanced diagnostics, as follows:

The following information is mostly relevant for professional installers, in other words those who do more than one 3k3y install. With this setup you will be able to check the 3k3y operation standalone, that it boots OK from microSD card, without installing in a PS3 console or even connecting a BD drive.

What you need is a serial 3.3V UART circuit, similar to this one: free60.org/Level_Shifter

Parts:

1x MAX3232 IC
5x 0.1uF Caps
1x 9-pin D-Sub Port

s3nint3!Note that the computer serial port on this image have RxD and TxD labels swapped by mistake, the pin numbers and traces drawn are correct though. Check this page (pinouts.ru/SerialPorts/Serial9_pinout.shtml) for reference when in doubt about computer serial port pins.

The difference from this design is that we will have to use an external power supply for the MAX3232 3.3V, 3k3y 5V, and hook up RX and TX points to the 3k3y board (instead of the Xbox 360).

s3nint3!Here's a photo of my diag setup. The brown perfboard has the MAX3232 on there (and some other Atmel test stuff not needed for 3k3y). The 3k3y (3KR in this case) needs 5V feed, you can use the power cable included in the 3k3y bundle. However, the UART signal level needs to be 3.3V for the MAX3232 circuit/board.

s3nint3!This is a closeup of the 3KR location of the RX and TX points. On 3k3y FAT you will find the RX and TX points on the back of the board, they lead to vias which can be accessed from the top though.

s3nint3!I'm using an Amiga 1200 computer here with a terminal program loaded for serial communication. For those interested, my Amiga 1200 specs: 68030 at 33 MHz (ACA-1232), 2MB Chip + 128MB Fast, RTC, 3.1 ROMs, IDE-CF+4GB, WiFi WPA, ClassicWB (LITE).

On a PC with Windows you can use the included HyperTerminal software to do this, for Linux I recommend using 'minicom'.

s3nint3!Here's the 3k3y output (on my old CRT TV) from U-Boot which loads the Linux kernel on the device. The serial port is set to 115200 BPS (8-N-1) which is required by 3k3y.

The output here means the microSD card uImage and rootfs files were OK and the kernel was started. If there is no output at all there is probably something wrong with the microSD card (or your MAX3232 build). You will not see any output past the point of this "Starting kernel ..." message. If you have a corrupt microSD card the "Bad Data CRC" message can be seen in some cases.

Check this for more info how to restore a 3k3y microSD card with factory image:

Description

This tutorial will help those of you unlucky enough to have received a corrupt or DOA microSD card, or who deleted files (formatted) by mistake. Keep in mind that 3k3y firmware updates should be copied to an USB stick or hard drive, NOT DIRECTLY TO THE MICROSD card!
What you need

  • USB Image Tool for Windows.
  • A 3k3y microSD card image file.

Note: If you are using Linux, then you can write the raw image to microSD card using 'dd'.

Getting ready

  • Unzip USB Image Tool to a directory on your Hard Disk.
  • Unpack the 3k3y SD card image file using 7-Zip into the same directory.
  • A micro SD card, preferably the 128MB (or 116MB) card that came with xkey but if this is not working you can use any micro SD card you have available.

Writing the image

  • Plug your microSD card into a USB card reader, plug the card reader into your PC. Note the drive letter Windows assigns to it.
  • Run the USB Image Tool (on Vista & 7 be sure to run it as Administrator).
  • Make sure the USB Image Tool is in "Device Mode".
  • Select the microSD card from the list in USB Image Tool.
  • Click the "Restore" button in USB Image Tool.
  • A FileOpen Dialog will appear, select the xkey microSD card image file you unzipped previously.
  • Wait a few seconds for USB Image Tool to do its thing.
  • Eject/Safely Remove the SD card in explorer.

You now have a factory fresh micro SD card with 3k3y base FW version ready to use, add your 3Dump.bin file and test in your 3k3y.

s3nint3!Please note, if you make a new card please use a Micro Sd card reader, not a microSD to SDcard adapter that is plugged into a reader as it usually doesn't work.

If a remote display is connected to the 3k3y via flex cable and to a powered USB port (Eg. USB hub) using the dongle, it will read "BAD BD" since we don't have any BD drive connected via SATA (or PATA if you are checking 3k3y FAT) in this setup, but it will still detect hard drives and it can be used to check the "About" info display for firmware version, FPGA version, drive key, etc. You can also perform the standard 3k3y firmware update hooked up this way.

This is good to know if you want to test individual parts of the 3k3y bundle, before even starting the install. If you don't get any data on the serial port, and you suspect the 3k3y is bad, then the blue LED on the 3k3y PCB can help diagnose the problem.

s3nint3!I hope this will help you diagnose 3k3y in a more efficient way. Please ask questions if you have any.

From SpidaWeb: 3K3y Ripp3r Application 1.27+ Helpful Information:

A couple of things are assumed in the following instructions. It is assumed that you are rebuilding JB files, PSN, and Homebrew. It is also assumed that you are on a NO KEYS installation of the 3K3Y firmware.

Installation and Setup of Ripp3r version 1.27+

1. Uninstall any previous versions.
2. Run the installation program and follow the prompts.
3. Run the Ripp3r application.
4. Verify that you are on version 1.27 by clicking “About.”
5. In order to be able to rebuild JB files without IRD, PSN, and Homebrew, you will need to set a few options. Click on “Tools” from the top menu, and then click on “Settings.”
6. Make sure you have the following enabled under “Rip/Rebuild/Encrypt Options”:

s3nint3!a. Do not encrypt rebuilt ISOs
b. Enable Homebrew ISOs (without IRD)
7. Click “OK”.
8. You are now ready to rebuild ISOs.

Backing up an original disc to an ISO for use with the 3K3Y

It is assumed here that your BD drive is properly connected to your PC via USB and the Ripp3r hardware and is working properly. It does not matter if you are using your 3Dump keys or a spare drive with the application's default keys.

1. Make sure there is no disc in the BD drive. The Ripp3r application will not detect the drive if there is a disc inserted. You can use the provided button on the Ripp3r hardware to eject a disc.
2. Start the Ripp3r application.
3. Insert an original PS3 disc into the BD drive. The application will detect the disc and display the Title ID.
4. Click on the "Rip Game" button.
5. If you have "Create IRD while ripping" enabled in your settings, you will be prompted to name the IRD. Choose the desired directory and name your IRD file, and then click “Save”.
6. Choose the desired directory and name your ISO, and then click “Save”.
7. The application will then begin process the disc and begin to make a 1:1 copy. This process can be quite lengthy. The time required is dependent on the amount of data backed up from the disc. Once the process is complete, the application will display "All done".
8. The resulting ISO will be encrypted. This ISO will need to be decrypted in order to use it with the 3K3Y. To decrypt the ISO, click on the "ISO Crypto button.
9. Select the proper directly and the encrypted ISO that you have created from the original disc.
10. The application will begin the process of decrypting tne encrypted ISO. Once the process is complete, the application will display "Success". The decrypted ISO is now ready to use with the 3K3Y.
11. Enjoy your ISO.

Rebuilding a JB set using Ripp3r 1.27+ and valid IRD

1. Open the Ripp3r application.
2. Click on “Create ISO”.
3. Select the directory that contains the JB files and click “OK”.
4. Choose the desired directory, name your ISO, and then click “Save”.
5. Select the corresponding IRD file and click “Open”.
6. The Ripp3r application will parse the IRD, and then check and validate the files against the IRD.
7. If all file sizes are valid, the Ripp3r will then begin to create the ISO.
8. Since encryption is disabled on rebuild, you can expect “Unverified Regions”.
9. Once the application finishes rebuilding the ISO, you will see the message stating that the process is “All complete”.
10. You may notice that the message also states that the resulting ISO "does not match the original". Do not be alarmed by this message. The Ripp3r application has used the IRD in order to hash check the files. The IRD has allowed to application to know not only details about each file itself, but also file placement within the ISO. Since the application has the proper file information and has validated the data, you can be assured that the resulting ISO is 99.9% correct, even if particular regions are unverified.
11. Enjoy your ISO.

Rebuilding a JB set using Ripp3r 1.27+ without a valid IRD

1. Open the Ripp3r application.
2. Click on “Create ISO”.
3. Select the directory that contains the JB files and click “OK”
4. Choose the desired directory, name your ISO, and then click “Save”.
5. When prompted to select the corresponding IRD file, click “Cancel”.
6. The Ripp3r application will generate any applicable files and begin to create the ISO.
7. Once the application finishes rebuilding the ISO, you will see the message stating that the process is “All complete”.
8. Since there is no IRD to compare and no constraint by which the application can measure, the resulting ISO cannot be considered “stealth” in any way. The files used to build the ISO could have been altered in any number of ways. These ISOs are to be used at your own risk.
9. Enjoy your ISO.

Creating an ISO from a “Homebrew title” using Ripp3r 1.27+

There are a few things you will need.

  • You will need to decrypt and extract PKG files. I use pgkview, and all steps will reflect using pgkview. It is available here: [Register or Login to view links]
  • You will need to decrypt and edit EBOOT.BIN. Use the resigner that ICECOLDKILLAH has put together that uses scetool. it can be found here: [Register or Login to view links]
  • You will need to edit PARAM.SFO. I use aldos tools. The PARAM.SFO editor is available here: aldostools.org/PARAM_SFO_Editor.rar
  • You will need a hex editor. I use HXD, available here: mh-nexus.de/downloads/HxDSetupEN.zip

There may be other tools or other ways to prepare your files for ISO. All input is welcome.

Creating an ISO from a “PSN title” using Ripp3r 1.27+

There are a few things you will need (in addition to the above items).

You will need the following files from a valid PS3 disc:

  • LIC.DAT
  • PS3_DISC.SFB

You are using PSN title ISOs at your own risk. They may or may not easily be detected. You should only create ISOs for PSN titles you actually have purchased. There may be other tools or other ways to prepare your files for ISO. All input is welcome.

PREPARATION:

1. You should have 2 PKG files. One file will contain the actual title and the other will contain a crack for the PSN title.
2. Extract the titles by opening the PKG files and right clicking on the root of the PKG. Select "Extract to source folder". Do this for each PKG file.
3. Move the contents of the crack folder to the proper place in the PSN Title folder, replacing files.

[ --- (Pre-1.27 Start): --- ]

4. You will now need to created the structure expected on a PS3 disc. Create the following directories:

  • [PSN_TITLE]\PS3_GAME\
  • [PSN_TITLE]\PS3_GAME\LICDIR\

5. Move the contents of the PSN Title that you extracted from the PKG files into the PS3_GAME\ directory.
6. Move LIC.DAT into the [PSN_TITLE]\PS3_GAME\LICDIR\ directory.
7. Move PS3_DISC.SFB into the [PSN_TITLE]\ directory.
8. The resulting structure should look similar to the following:
9. Edit [PSN_TITLE]\PS3_GAME\PARAM.SFO. Change the category to DG. Note the TITLE.ID.
10. With your Hex Editor, edit [PSN_TITLE]\PS3_DISC.SFB and [PSN_TITLE]\PS3_GAME\LICDIR\LIC.DAT. Change the TITLE_ID to match the TITLE_ID in PARAM.SFO.

s3nint3!s3nint3!
[ --- (Pre-1.27 End): --- ]

4. (or 11 if using Pre-1.27). Using the EBOOT Resigner, resign the EBOOT.BIN and place it back in the proper directory.

DISC CREATION:

1. Open the Ripp3r application.
2. Click on “Create ISO”.
3. Select the directory that contains the file that have been prepared from the PSN PKG and click “OK”

3K3y Updating Your Firmware - Helpful Information

As the 3K3Y feature set evolves and grows you will it necessary to update your firmware. The following information is intended to help you do just that.

INITIAL CHECKS

1. Make sure the PS3 is OFF
2. Remove the micro SD card from the 3K3Y all together.
3. Turn on the PS3 with no disc in and drive closed.
4. Notice the lights on the 3K3Y. Red is solid and blue is slowly flashing. If this is the case, move to the next step, otherwise check connections, solder points, etc...
5. Turn off the PS3.
6. Image the micro SD with a proper base image. The included micro SD Card should be 128MB. It is possible to use a larger card, but not necessary. A micro SD reader should be used with a Windows Vista or higher computer. Do NOT try to use a cell phone or tablet.

WRITING THE BASE IMAGE USING USBIT FOR WINDOWS

USBIT, or USB IMage Tool, is a small program that can create images of USB flash drives and make an exact backup image of your USB Stick.

1. Download USBIT from here: alexpage.de/usb-image-tool/
2. Download a 3K3Y base image from here: xkeydownloads.com/MicroSdImages/SDImages-110MB.zip. Use the 2.XX image.
3. Unzip USBIT and the 3K3Y base image to your hard drive.
4. Using a SD card reader, insert your micro SD into the computer.
5. Run USBIT.
6. From the top drop down select "Device Mode".
7. Select the proper storage device from the list on the left hand portion of the window.
8. Click the "Restore" button.
9. Select the 3K3Y base image

WRITING THE BASE IMAGE USING DD FOR WINDOWS

PERSONAL NOTE: This little batch file was put together using dd for windows. It is to be used at your own risk and is not official 3k3y software. This batch file will clean the partition from the mirco SD card then rawwrite a base image. it CAN DELETE other partitions if care is not used. MAKE SURE the selected disk number is the micro SD card. No one is to be held responsible if partition information is deleted on other USB devices.

1. Download 2.00 Base DD.rar from here: [Register or Login to view links]
2. Using a SD card reader, insert your micro SD into the computer.
3. Unrar and run 3K3Y_restore.bat
4. Carefully follow all prompts
5. Safely eject the micro SD card.
6. Seat the micro SD card in the 3k3y and make sure it locks in place.

WRITING THE BASE IMAGE USING DD FOR LINUX

Coming Soon

Now that the Micro SD has been imaged without error and inserted it into the 3k3y, the update will need to be applied. The update should be applied with no disc in the drive and drive closed (if super slim).

The update will consist of three steps using the following files:
UPDATE STEP 1
rootfs -- Root File System
uImage -- Kernel

UPDATE STEP 2
fpga.vme -- This is dependent on your model and are labeled appropriately. 3KF for Fat or PATA and 3KS for Slim or SATA. Do NOT use the PATA/FAT on a SLIM/SATA or vice versa. This WILL brick the 3K3Y.

UPDATE STEP 3
3key.cfg -- this is the editable config file. Edit in notepad.
gyo.db -- Database file that contains all known D1s.

UPDATING TO THE LATEST FIRMWARE

1. Download to the latest version of the firmware. At the time of this writing, the 2.02 is the latest and can be downloaded from here: [Register or Login to view links]
2. Unrar the downloaded file, and copy only rootfs and uImage into the root of an USB flash drive. The flash can be formatted NTFS or Fat32.
3. Safely eject the flash drive.
4. Turn on the PS3 with no disc in and drive closed.
5. Place the flash drive into the USB dongle that is attached to the 3K3Y by the small FFC and plugged into the PS3's USB port.
6. Wait for update to complete. If no remote, allow 15 Minutes for the update to complete. If a remote is connected, watch for notification of update completion.
7. Turn OFF your PS3
8. Remove the flash drive
9. Insert the flash drive again into the computer.
10. Delete rootfs and uImage from the flash drive.
11. Copy the PROPER fpga.vme to the flash drive.
12. Safely eject the flash drive.
13. Turn on the PS3 with no disc in and drive closed.
14. Place the flash drive into the USB dongle that is attached to the 3K3Y by the small FFC and plugged into the PS3's USB port.
15. Wait for update to complete. If no remote, allow 15 Minutes for the update to complete. If a remote is connected, watch for notification of update completion.
16. Turn OFF the PS3
17. Remove the flash drive
18. Delete fgpa.vme from the flash drive.
19. Copy 3key.cfg and gyo.db to the flash drive.
20. Using notepad, carefully edit 3key.cfg on the flash drive and save it.
21. Safely eject the flash drive.
22. Turn on the PS3 with no disc in and drive closed.
23. Place the flash drive into the USB dongle that is attached to the 3K3Y by the small FFC and plugged into the PS3's USB port.
24. Wait for update to complete. If no remote, allow 15 Minutes for the update to complete. If a remote is connected, watch for notification of update completion.
25. Turn OFF the PS3
26. Remove the flash drive
27. Turn on your PS3 with no disc in and drive closed.
28. Notice the lights on the 3K3Y. Single Red light and blue light is flashing rapidly in succession of 5 flashes.
29. Success!

Now that you are up to date, the update files are no longer needed on the flash drive. They can be deleted. Do not leave the update files in the root of the same drive you plan to use for loading ISOs.

3K3y Firmware Update 2.02

Did you know that you can generate the latest 3key disk key database here (Mirror: 3k3y.com/ird_files/gyo)? Unlike with competing products you don't have to wait for the manufacturer to pinch the disk keys from our IRD database and compile it into a database

3k3y: "Universal" daughterboard for 25xx/3xxx/4xxx models finished! Its now now in production and will be available in about 2 weeks. This means that 3k3y will support ALL SATA (Slim and Super Slim models) using only 2 daughterboards - one solder free for 200x/210x models and one for *all* other models!

04/09/13 - 3k3y firmware update 2.02

Download: 0202.zip (Mirror: xkeydownloads.com/3k3y/02.02.zip)

Unofficial NOTES: 2.01 firmware had some bugs that slipped by, so this firmware fixes it and more. This is for 3k3y (PS3)... if you have an xk3y (xbox 360) then leave this area as you will brick your device with this update.

This update is for 3k3y PATA (3KF) and 3k3y Sata (3KS)...please take the fpga.vme out of the folder that belongs to your 3k3y type and place is on the root of your HDD with the other files. You do not need to do this if your FPGA is at 01.10 or 02.10 already

You will need to update your 3k3y in 2 cycles for the gyo.db to update. gyo.db is a new file that will make life easier for you as it contains a database of D1 keys ripped by the 3k3y community. Update to the new firmware, reboot console and leave your HDD/USb stick with update files inserted. You will see that the device will update again (gyo.db is being copied to the SD card!)

P.S. We know a lot of people are waiting to the 3k3y-S for Phat-Sata, 2k, 2.5k, and 3k PS3s. It is almost ready, it is made, in testing, we want to make sure we release the very best hardware to our customers.

New Features

  • Fix for ISOMenu
  • Improved handling of bad ISOs
  • Improved handling of ejecting media when no drive is attached

And from 2.01 which this includes:

  • Merge 3Dump and NoKeys
  • Support for for PSX img/bin/cue files
  • Improved support for for PSX img/bin/cue files
  • Support for homebrew/no IRD game ISOs
  • Override drive type in 3Key.cfg (3Dump only)
  • Improve bad BD handling
  • Improved ISO load to XMB time (400X)
  • Remove Autoeject & D1 options from 3key.cfg
  • Add support for gyo.db & auto detection of disk key

3k3y firmware UPDATE v2.02 Instructions:

1. Extract the files "rootfs", "uImage" , "fpga.vme" , "3key.cfg" and "gyo.db" (please use the appropriate fpga.vme for your 3k3y type)

2. Open 3key.cfg with Notepad and configure it if needed. If you do not wish to change the settings on your 3k3y then you do not need to edit OR update your 3k3y with this file, leave it out!

2.1 Add the files to the root folder of a Flash Drive or HDD. (Make sure to "eject" the drive properly from the PC, it may otherwise cause corrupt files)

3. Connect the Flash drive or HDD to your 3k3y remote and wait for the 3k3y to start the update.
3.1 The remote OLED will now display "UPDATING - PLEASE WAIT" for about 35 seconds. (Do not turn off your PS3 or disconnect the remote while updating. FPGA updates will take a little longer)

4. Once the update is completed, the OLED will display "UPDATE COMPLETE - RESET" Reboot your PS3 and the 3k3y should now be updated to the latest firmware.

5. That's it! Continue to enjoy using 3k3y with the new features!

NOTE! If you use the same drive as you store content on to do the update with, then its recommended (not needed) to remove the "rootfs", "uImage" & "3key.cfg" and any other files from the root of your drive after a firmware update. Since keeping them there will cause the 3k3y to check the files if they are a newer firmware version then stored on your 3k3y micro SD card, and because of that take longer time for your HDD to be recognized.

2 of the dodgiest videos i've seen. lol the first is for xbox and the 2nd shows nothing at all. must be so greedy not to even pay a few hundred bux for some decent marketing. lol

For those interested, below is some 3K3y helpful information from SpidaWeb, as follows:

Hey there! I know there is a noticeable lack of clear, precise information concerning the 3K3Y in particular and ODE’s in general. This can lead to quite a bit of confusion and misinformation. I see this is indeed the case concerning the ODE’s, as it has been the topic of much discussion lately.

I thought maybe I could help clear it up a bit, based on what I know, have experienced, or have gathered from the 3k3y site. Some of this info is from the main site, some from the FAQ, and some from me. Let me know what is inaccurate or just plain wrong and I'll do my best ro correct it. My intent is to be concise and precise. As far as I know this is all accurate.

The 3k3y is an optical disk drive emulator, ODE, for the PlayStation 3 video game console. It is installed between the genuine BD drive and the PS3 motherboard. It is used to play backups of your original PS3 game disks from USB media. You can play these backups without the need of the original game disk.

The 3k3y supports most all ps3 models, both phat and slim. The 3k3y for PATA phats is in stock and available. The 3K3Y-S for SATA phats, and 20xxx/21xxx is almost ready and is estimated to be out by the end of August or early September. The 3K3Y-S for 25xxx/30xxx is almost complete and is estimated to be out by the end of August or early September. The 3K3Y-S for super slim 40xxx models is now in stock and available.

There are two versions of the 3k3y mainboard and 3 versions of the 3k3y adapter board. The 3k3y main board comes in a PATA version and a SATA version. SATA Phats and 20xxx/21xxx have an adapter board specific to those models 25xxx/30xxx have an adapter board specific to those models. 40xxx has an adapter board specific to that model. PATA versions do not require an adapter board.

The PS3 phat consoles and the 20xxx/21xxx slim consoles do not require soldering. 25xxx/30xxx slim and 40xxx superslim consoles all require soldering to attach the 3k3y adapter board to the PS3 mainboard.

The 3k3y mainboards all require a micro SD card, 128mb included. This media holds the firmware and allows for easy updating.

The 3k3y also requires some form of external USB media, not included. This can be an external hard drive or a flash / thumb drive. NTFS, FAT32, EXT2/3/4, and eXFAT formatted partitions are supported. The partitions, limited by file system restrictions, can be as large as 4TB.

When in operation, the 3k3y will run in two modes, emulation mode and passthru mode. In emulation mode the 3k3y emulates the BD drive and allows you to load and boot ISO's from your USB hard drive. If you are using the "No Keys" firmware, you must have an original disc in the BD drive in order to load your ISOs. You do not have to have an original disc in order to use the "3Dump" firmware.

When using the no keys firmware, the original disc is needed for authentication. It can be any valid PS3 disc. The D1 of that original disc is used.

In passthru mode, the PS3 functions as normal and the 3k3y is disabled, allowing you to use the BD drive to play your original games and watch movies. You cannot play copied discs or movies on the BD drive using the 3k3y.

The 3k3y allows you to load your games several different ways. You may load your game using the remote, in the XMB, or over the network using the WiFi Dongle. You backups exist as disc images on an external USB storage device and are placed under the directory GAMES/. You may sort your games as you wish as long as they are under the GAMES/ directory.

Using the 3k3y you can play backups of your PS3 games in ISO format and backups of your PSX games in BIN/CUE format. The ability to play PS2 games is not available at this time. However, this feature is in development and testing.

Updating your Sony PS3 system firmware is optional. The 3k3y is tested and working with firmware up to 4.46, the most current at the time of this writing. If you choose to update your firmware, you may do so in passthru mode. Sony makes updates to the system and drive firmware, so the drive needs to be visible and functional. Do not attempt to update your PS3's official firmware while in emulation mode.

Since the 3k3y is a disc emulator, you can access PlayStation Network and other online applications while using the 3k3y. However, one cannot completely assess the level of risk associated with online use. Any modification to your console may or may not lead to denial of access at the console or user level. As noted, Sony will perform system updates. These updates may or may not render a modification of your console unusable online.

While you may play PlayStation network title you have purchased and downloaded while the 3k3y is on your system., the ability to back up those titles and play them is in testing and development. It is possible to play some PlayStation Network titles. However, not all games work and no guarantee is made as to the 3k3ys compatibility with PlayStation Network titles. This is true also of homebrew software. Some homebrew will work without issues and others will not.

You do not have to be on a custom firmware in order to install or use the 3k3y. All consoles on and up to OFW 4.46 are able to use the 3k3y. Note, you will need custom firmware in order to obtain your drive keys if you plan to use the 3dump firmware. You cannot use a homebrew ISO to obtain your drive keys.

To obtain your drive keys you must be on a custom firmware with "Peek n Poke" support. If you plan on using the "No Key" aspect of the 3k3y firmware, no custom firmware or drive keys are required. If you already have your drive keys, you can use them. The "No Keys" firmware and the "3Dump" firmware share a common version as of version 2.01

There are several accessories available for the 3k3y. These are not required for installation or operation of the 3k3y, but they add features to the 3k3y that may be desirable.

The 3k3y remote device is a small USB hub and graphical display that allows you to expand the single port dongle. load games, and view important information about your 3k3y. The remote is not required, but it is highly recommended for information and troubleshooting purposes. You can use Version 1 and Version 2 remotes as long as they are running remote firmware version 1.1. These are the same remotes used with the Xk3y.

The 3k3y WiFi dongle is a USB wireless network adapter that allows you to communicate with your 3k3y using any standard web browser. The WiFi dongle allows you to select and load games from most devices that connect to your network and contain a browser, i.e. computers, smart phones and tablets.

In order to limit support requests and keep the Linux OS size as small as possible, only the official k3y (xk3y/3k3y) WiFi adapter is supported. A unique key is sold with each WiFi adapter, this key needs to be configured in the 3k3y.cfg file along with your WiFi network details.

The Ripp3r is a hardware adapter board and associated application. The Ripp3r hardware and software allow you to backup your games from original discs using a PS3 BD drive. The Ripp3r board is available in both SATA and PATA versions. You may choose to use the Ripp3r board with a drive using the "3dump" drive keys or the software's default keys.

It is recommended you use the "3dump"drive keys, but it is not required. If you choose to use the Ripp3r software's default keys with the PS3 drive, that drive will be rendered useless in any PS3 console from that time on. It is suggested you use a spare PS3 drive when using the default keys option.

The Ripp3r application will allow to backup original PS3 discs when used with the Ripp3r hardware. If you are backing up an original disc, you will need to decrypt the ISO in the Ripp3r software in order to use it with the 3k3y. Encrypted ISO files appear as they would be on the retail disc. The "3Dump" firmware can handle both encrypted and decrypted ISOs. The Ripp3r application also allows you to build disc images from JB rips of the disc you own.

ISOs made from JB rips are decrypted when built by the Ripp3r software. You may build these images straight from the rips without validation, or you may validate the image by comparing the JB rip to the original disc structure using an IRD, or ISO Rebuild Data, file. An IRD file contains the necessary information to rebuild a JB rip into a 3k3y compatible ISO file that is a 1:1 match for the original disc. IRD files are not needed to play a game with the 3k3y. Any valid PS3 disc or rip should play using the 3k3y. IRD files are only used to validate JBs.

It is recommended that you use IRD files to create your backups if you do not own the Ripp3r hardware, since IRD files are used to create 1:1 copies of your games, making 3k3y safer to use online. Due to the amount of modified JB Rips floating around the Internet, this allows a way to validate disc images. When using an image created with an IRD file, you shouldn't experience issues booting games while running official firmware. As of version 1.27 of the Ripp3r software, you can build disc images with no IRD file. This is used at your own risk and will not assure you are playing from unaltered files. Hope this Helps! Thanks!

E3-Team releases more details on their PS3 ODE from PS3 scene profiteers Paul Owen and Gary Wayne Bowser (GaryOPA) below:

E3 ODE and E3 ODE PRO coming soon!

E3-Team has released the first pictures of their E3-Demo unit, the current working ODE design they are planning to release soon, along with some more details on pricing and two different models.

Today, the latest information and E3-DEMO pictures from the E3-Team (the same group that bought you the E3-Flasher and E3 Card Reader) has arrived for their upcoming PlayStation 3 Optical Drive Emulator, the E3-ODE.

E3-Team says they are currently debugging the E3-DEMO ODE design, and the official retail version will be produced quickly afterwards.

In addition, the E3 TEAM have also announced that E3-ODE will arrive in 2 different versions, and announced the official suggested retail price that official resellers should be selling at soon once the retail version ships.

1: E3 ODE

  • Support all PS3, include 3K and 4K version.
  • Support for running HOMEBREW and E3 ODE CFW on unbreakable OFW, include 3K and 4K console.
  • Easy upgradable mode, allow user update E3 ODE new function easily.
  • Support BD movie, PS1/PS2 game (In a future update)
  • Need boot disc to run game (same as other ODE)
  • Need restart PS3 before running game every time (same as other ODE)
  • Need restart PS3 if switch to a new game every time (same as other ODE)

Official suggested retail price : USD $69.80

2: E3 ODE PRO

The E3 ODE PRO uses the very latest in unique technology designed by E3-Team to allow users to play all game without restart PS3.

Compared with other existing ODE's on the market, the E3 ODE PRO enhances the excitement of being able to play a game right away, as it reduces the frequency of restarting your PS3 console, which overall protects the lifespan of your PS3.

  • Select and play ,no need restart PS3 to run game, protected the life of your PS3 effectively
  • Select and switch, no need restart PS3 to switch a new game, protected the life of your PS3 effectively
  • Other function is same as E3 ODE:
  • Support all PS3, include 3K and 4K version.
  • Support for running HOMEBREW and E3 ODE CFW on unbreakable OFW, include 3K and 4K console.
  • Easy upgradable mode, allow user update E3 ODE new function easily.
  • Support BD movie, PS1/PS2 game (In a future update)
  • Need boot disc to run game (same as other ODE)

Because of additional hardware, the official retail price of E3 ODE PRO is USD $79.80. E3-Team will release more details in few days, so stay tuned.

Update: E3 ODE DEMO run game successfully!

E3 ODE DEMO pictures released less than 2 weeks, the real game testing video has been released, compared with other PS3 ODE, the efficiency of E3TEAM is amazing!

Compared with the first test video with our PC, the E3 ODE DEMO speed has increased many times. E3TEAM will continue to optimize the operating speed.

And because E3 ODE processor is nearly twice the speed than other PS3 ODE processors, the final E3 ODE speed will be completely beyond other PS3 ODE.

A special emphasis on E3TEAM, the other PS3 ODE need to restart the PS3 or need to repeatedly pulling BD drive case when playing and switching game, these operations will seriously damage the life of PS3 or BD drive.

While the E3 ODE PRO unique technology, makes the user to completely avoid these risks, user playing the game and switching the game, without repeatedly restarting the PS3, also does not need to be repeatedly pulling the drive case, it protects the PS3 or BD drive life well.

This technology is E3TEAM exclusive research and development, and at present no other PS3 ODE has this function.

Again the E3 ODE PRO's official retail price is USD $79.80, and E3TEAM will be officially listing the unit for sale at the end of August.

whats the point now with ps4 coming so soon anyways. they must be really greedy people. at least its a solution for 3k plus models i guess but i bet they will cost as much as the console. lol

Also below is a video from harryoke of 3k3y running PS Seismograph homebrew on a PS3 4k Superslim console followed by a Tutorial on how to make PSN cracked game iSO for 3K3y:

To quote: I built the iso myself & it works great. More homebrew tests to come.. just got blackbox ftp working on superslim ... but suffers from same restrictions as comgenies ... any idea why anyone (can't access lots of folders) also Neo Tanks v0.3 by ThatOtherPerson and Scogger HD v0.1 by Scognito below.

Install package files homebrew runs from iso & reads usb ...goes to restart ps3 and just goes to xmb .. no package ??? needs tweaking for 4.46.

New ripp3r will be released for homebrew apps and games without the need for ird's, but home brew needs a bit of tinkering with. first the eboot use scetool in command line and enter:

that's the eboot sorted !!!!

next you need a lic.dat & PS3_DISC.SFB edited in hex with the game id changed to your homebrew's... then edit the param.sfo to DG (Disc game) ... make sure you have the right folder structure for a game disk and use ripp3r to make iso.

From the 3K3y Team: Ripp3r software coming for 3k3y this week!

New Ripp3r software coming this week! This is a major update with 3 new killer features:

  • IRD files no longer needed for rebuilding 'jailbreak/scene' rips!
