192w ago - Today Japanese video game peripheral manufacturer Hori has announced news of a new Sony-licensed PS3 Slim LCD screen modification that, when installed, will allow the PS3 Slim to go portable.
The devices attaches a 1,366 x 768 LCD screen and stereo speakers to your PlayStation 3 Slim console allowing you to essentially take the PS3 system anywhere you'd like.
Due out in Japan on May 27th for ¥26,040 ($275), and is able to display games in high definition (720p).
To quote: "Built by Japanese peripheral specialists Hori, it's an LCD screen that attaches to the top of the console, and is able to display games in high definition (720p).
Sounds slightly stupid, but then, it doesn't just give you a portable PS3, it gives you a portable Blu-Ray player as well (and, for the Japanese, it's even compatible with the torne digital TV peripheral). One that can display stuff in HD, for those times you're stuck at Gran's house on her old 28" SDTV.
It'll go on sale May 27 in Japan, for USD $275."

I think it's totally useless as someone earlier said in the thread.... For it to be portable it needs to have loads of battery backup which i think is highly impossible looking at the power requirements of the beast... and considering it's weight i don't think not many people would think of carrying it along with them.
This is damn kewl!!! A PSP on super-steriods!! I like the route the Japanese go with enhancing the PS3. What bothers me is that they only came up withthis idea for the PS3 slim and has not done this for the PS3 fat (correct me if I am wrong).
I hope that they will come up with a similar solution for the PS3 fat. One constraint might well be the problem of overheating. If this screen gets power from the PS3, then it might well be advised to get an additional cooling unit (if one has been made for the PS3 slim)
I could use this on camping trips. of course having my small Honda generator will probably have to come also, but i'd be happy to have this at 2 in the morning in the middle of the wilderness. Yogi Bear is uber jealous of my pwnage, and my snacky cakes.
