PS3 Hack Exploit SX28 Hardware Arrives, Bring on the Hypervisor!

Sponsored Links
259w ago - Today the PS3 hack exploit SX28 hardware arrived, so we can begin work on dumping the PlayStation 3 Hypervisor to examine!

Up to now, both GeoHot and xorloser have successfully performed the PS3 hack while a few others simply obtained GeoHot's PS3 Hypervisor dump to study privately.

Needless to say, the rest of the PS3 scene including most of us here, have been waiting to take a peek at the unencrypted bootloader and Hypervisor lv0 and lv1 dumps.

We started by writing a Ubuntu Guide (as did titanmkd HERE) and attempted to use a 555 timer to obtain the 40ns pulse required to trigger the exploit, but like many others who attempted this we too had no such luck!

Luckily xorloser shared some propered code to trigger a 40ns pulse using an SX28 chip. They are a bit harder to find, and a little more expensive (as you need a programmer) but the method is sound.

That brings us to today, and our SX28 chips and programmer arrived - so we will be recreating the hardware, and giving this a go soon!

Oh, and OtherOS, it's not C++. The linux kernel is pure C and assembler nothing else. The userland is alot of different languages: perl, python, c++, c, etc...

Indeed, they could have written the damn thing in lolcode ([Register or Login to view links]), as long as they made a nice compiler to convert its instructions -> the proper assembly, it would not really matter. The "language" just makes it nice for us, the machine just needs to know the assembly, or technically the binary.

And Assembly is need more power of hardware to work!

U can just do simply commands and actions by using assembly language but it will take more hardware power that C++.
C++ programming language is simply the MOST usefull language its really modern than Assembly!
Other OS is using C++

Playstation 3 Was Fully Build by using C/C++ programming language.

Actually my friend who r master in LINUX...said that i looked into ps3 and i can say that... Ps3 is Build on C++ and Really the same like Linux OS!

We opened Ps3 HDD and saw that all files are .bin so actually cool technology mr. SONY!

Awesome!!! Good Luck on obtaining the dumps and researching them, CJPC.

I wish I had the skills and knowledge to help but unfortunately I don't. So I really apreciate you taking the time and expense to do this. You have my respect and gratitude. Keep up the great work.

i know that sony, ibm, and toshiba had to implement an assembly language for the new architecture. just wondering if it can use a higher level language also. i'm sure they didn't write the ps3 os in pure assembly, or did they?

Hopefully we will have these dumps running in the wild soon enough... It really makes me wonder why it took so much time to do it... as there are enough so called "hackers" that play with PS3 hardware! somehow the PS3 does not have the dedication that X360 receives ...
