This means if you have a converted unit and currently try to use the (not yet public / leaked) 4.30 DECH update you will get a brick... so consider yourself warned in advance!
What happens is when the bricked unit is powered on the light turns green for a few seconds, then you hear 3 beeps and its goes off.
It is suspected (unconfirmed) the reason why this bricking occurs in CEX to DEX converts on OFW 4.30 DEX is because the EID5 isn't changed, which is one factor separating the converted Retail to Debug / Test consoles from genuine and righteous DECH (DEX) consoles.
Finally, for those curious, the PS3 4.25 DEX update (also not publicly leaked yet) is not patched by Sony to brick converted consoles, so this would be the last PS3 Debug / Test Firmware you could update your converted console to (and go online with PSoN DEX) unless a work-around patch fix is discovered.

I have bee doing a bit of searching and could not find some good info on the differences between CEX and DEX CFW. Can anyone post a good link or explain the differences and any other recommendations regarding the two?
I was thinking about something for awhile. I'm getting the tiao nand reader in the mail to jailbreak my ps3, but, I don't know if this permanently installs A FW. It would be a easy task but, also a inconvenience to have the reader always in the usb slot to play backups.
But, then I heard about DEX's ability to directly downgrade, so If this jailbreak allows me to install pkg's then maybe I could convert to DEX to downgrade. I don't want to keep DEX because you can't play new games from the hdd, or at least its that way to my knowledge.
So if I had DEX maybe I could downgrade to 3.55 OFW then install 3.55 CFW then convert back to CEX.
Is this possible without bricking, I would have searched this if it was'nt so specific, thanks.
