To quote: Issues as of now:
- music, mugen mode is slow with anyone besides kfm
- character compatibility with some mugen characters
- these issues are fixable
If you are looking for a side-scrolling, action packed game like you used to play or if you are looking for an extensible engine to write your own game, look no further. Paintown supports user created content through a mod system and user defined functionality through scripting.
Paintown also supports an implementation of M.U.G.E.N. Our goal is to be 100% compatible with M.U.G.E.N 2002.04.14 beta as well as supporting any new updates in the 1.0 version.
Paintown is completely open-source and we would love any contributions in the form of code, art, or donations. Give Paintown a try!
Paintown mode works perfect - some issues are still present in
mugen mode and music is out for right now feel free to play and have fun, you will need to install the pkg and then copy the data folder from to the install directory/USRDIR (/dev_hdd0/game/Paintown_/USRDIR/)
- also for optimal play change your video output before playing to 720 or 480 on the PS3
- 1080 is laggy for now
- change back to whatever you were using when done playing
- network play coming soon!
(btw X is exit [] is select in menus)
Finally, added above is a Paintown PS3 Test PKG Screen Resolution Fix version from
Jon Rafkin and
Juvinious which no longer requires the screen resolution to be changed and now incorporates an XMB icon / background image followed by revisions that include the data, fixes and 2 extra MUGEN characters that aren't slow.
The Music Fix allow players to add custom music but it is advised to get the Music Fix Repack above, and tested so far are OGG files although users can try WAV and MP3 files but there is no guarantee they will currently work. For those wondering, custom music should go in /dev_hdd0/game/Paintown_/USRDIR/data/music
It's basically a better put together compilation with the edition of 3 new characters an stages an some sound fx. To install go into multiMAN file manager then go to dev-hdd0 then to game an then to paintown then into usrdir then data then mugen.
Now all you have to do is take the files from the download and put the contents into the folders with the same names in mugen, so the contents of the downloaded folder ''chars'' go into the ''chars'' in your mugen folder in paintown on your hdd...
Now in this revision theres a better fight contact FX, also different colour health bars, and the characters are now... CHRIS , T-103 TYRANT, JILL, RE2 LEON, NEMESIS, HUNK, WESKER AND ZOMBIE CHAOS... check out this YouTube video...
There are also some Resi stages like, Raccoon city street were the floor collapses into the sewer, The underground railway to the hive, The umbrella heliport and the B.O.W Laboratory...
What you should do if you want mugen to run with few bugs an quicker loading time is make a copy of your stages folder before applying mine, Keep your copy safe then delete the stage folder an only put mine in, that way things wont slow down and hardly freeze,

CRAP!
A couple of nights ago I was trawling the net looking for some stuff for the homebrew game paintown on the PS3. After downloading the latest version of Paintown (3.6.1) I noticed that Jonny Rafkind had mad some revisions of the mugen part of his side scroller so I mooched around a bit and found loads of mugen characters. On the initial load up there were a few crashes an buggy moments.
So I messed around a bit an came up with this as good as its gonna get (gameplay wise) themed pack of Resident Evil characters, you have jill, chris, wesker, leon, hunk, nemesis and a few zombies. I'm attaching a preview video I made of it in action...
This is the video link of it in action:
And here's the download link: http://www.4shared.com/zip/vvHOWXu6/Resi-paintown-mugen-pack.html / http://uploadmirrors.com/download/12V7RDP9/Resi-paintown-mugen-pack.zip (Mirror)
I hope you all get a real kick out playing as I did. Please read the text file in the download for info on installing these characters... as follows:
First of all turn on your PS3 and go into multiMAN now go to the file manager and go into ''dev_hdd0'' then into ''game'' then scroll down to ''paintown_'' then into ''USRDIR'' then into ''data'' then into ''mugen'' and then into ''chars'' now copy the character name files into the ''chars'' file.
(Please note that this port of mugen will run really slow an buggy if you load lots of characters on in mugen, so only load on 4 or 5 characters at a time, preferably 4, then when you want to play with some others just delete the current 4 then add on another 4.
Enjoy. All the characters moves are quite similar to the joystick movements for ken an ryu in street fighter. (These characters were not designed an built by me they were only converted to run on the PS3 port of mugen by me. All credit of building these characters goes to who ever did it)
For other characters like guyver, predator, chuck norms and other obscure characters like that please visit the website called "mugen database". Thank you an I hope you enjoy my little package.
Cheers
