you can make them work, just replace their lens inside the drives. You can buy a ps3 lens from ebay, quite cheap
Well, that's quite possible, just like the PSPgo.
I guess right now we need to figure out the main difference between the PS3 BD drive and a usual BD drive.
I hope this leads to the same sort of exploit as the 360 and lets you play backups.
Even if it can't run backups if it lets you run games without the drive board lock will be great. What I mean is if the drive board and the PS3 dont match it doesnt work so if you remove that lock to let anything run will be really great.
Could a drive firmware flash also let PS2 games run on the slim? I guess it'll need a full console firmware flash for them to work.
I have access heaps of PS3s all with broken drives. I can double my money if I could get the drives working.
