Sponsored Links
252w ago - With the release of PS3 Firmware 3.21, many are now planning to hold off updating their PlayStation 3 consoles and use one of the PS3 Proxy applications to bypass the required PS3 Firmware update to connect to PSN.

While most of the applications, guides and videos are quite dated (from 2007-2009), below are links to some to make navigating easier. Special THANKS to ekrboi and themiker for making recent guides as well, also available below.

We will continue to add relevant links as they are dug up, and also links to posts with all new guides that prove useful.

Every time I reboot my router, changes made into the hosts file are lost
I also tried to add address=/ps3.update.playstation.net/192.168.1.1 into the dnsmasq.conf, but it also gets lost when rebooting ...

I think DNS is the easiest method.

Ok i have managed to set it up using my dd-wrt router.

Browser and vidzone now work unlike with lg5tool. Seems a lot faster too!

I would say this is easily the best method.

After having NUMEROUS issues with all of the methods described so far in here (for Windows - leaving asside indeed MAC, linux or router options at the moment and being a bit cautious with that DNS one) - most critical one were:

- Logan tool crashing often (Windows 7 and Vista)
- PS3 PROXi crashing (Windows 7)
- NONE of the proxy tools works with F@H / Life with Playstation (it can't upload / download new units)
- NONE of the proxy solutions works with Everybody's Golf: World Tour / Hot Shots Golf 5 (it's not possible to connect online - it will faill on attemting to contact minogol5eu.scej-online.jp:18443 - tested on Win XP, Vista and 7) and I'm sure there will be more programs with similar problems.

So the ONLY method which seems to works flawlessly so far with none of the above issues seems to be the DNS redirection one and if you're not confident enough to use the one mentioned a couple of times in this thread here is what I've done - nothing new really though - just dusted the old DNS method used ages ago but as it was not mentioned in particular in this thread so I'll just describe it in here briefly (this was tested so far on Windows XP and Vista):

1. Install the optional IIS (it's the part of Windows so no need to download it or even pay for it - as long as you have Windows installation CD or I386 folder present on your hard drive). Of course you can install any other web server you're familiar / comfortable with.

2. Start the web server and put teh corresponding ps3-updatelist.txt file in the relevant folder in your Inetpub folder - in my case: C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\update\ps3\list\uk

3. Download and install the DNS server application of your choice. I was originally trying to make this work with BIND (BIND9.7.0-P1) as it's free and most cherrished and recommended all over the net but so far I've failed to configure the DNS redirection in it - so if I'll figure it out later on or maybe someone more used to this tool would be so nice to post here how to enter the correct DNS records to this tool I'll switch back to it. For those who want to go ahead and experiment with it - read the Readmefirst file and html help included. Until then - I'm using the (commercial sadly) Simple DNS Plus (latest version 5.2 build 116) which is VERY user friednly with nice GUI but you'd neet to purchase it after 14 days of trial period.

4. Enter the DNS record for your relevant URL redirection - lets say in my case: fuk01.ps3.update.playstation.net and direct the host IP to your own PC IP address used to run DNS server - usually something like 192.168.xxx.yyy

5. Change the settings of your PS3's to use your PC as Primary DNS server. You can set up your router as secondary one so in case your PC (or DNS application on it) is down you'l lat least have some basic internet connection on your PS3 although you'll be indeed not able to connect to PSN in such case.

I'll try to make a more detailed description / tutorial if somebody will be interrested or at least answer any questions if someone will get stuck trying this method - just let me know here. I'll by trying to do the same - e.g. DNS redirection + HTTP server on some simple (preferably live) Linux distribution so it could be used easily.

ok that's resolved i'll have to get on my PS3 here in a bit and play with the settings and see what happens with this tool when i use netflix and such.

this tool says "this function does not work on latest FWs" what FWs is it referring to ? i'm 3.15 will it work?

well i started getting the runtime error for logans tool it stil logs in tho (odd) also noticed that you dont hae to be logged into PSN to connect to netflix (kool thing i suppose that net flix cant force us to be screwed by updating) but trying to leave my wireless configuration set for logans tool and trying to use netflix is definitly a no go this DDWRT thing might be a good soloution

how ever (i have a linksys wireless G WRT54G v3) ive been wanting to play with it for a bit now and havent had a good reason till now (how hard is it to mess up the flash btw) but my question is how do i set up something that will allow me to connect to netflix as well as PSN without forcing the update any one got some kind of configuration there using that does this for them whats the trick here

Also interested in a detailed tutorial for DDWRT bypassing if its more relyable than any of the tools and lag reducing (as id asume it would be as data isent relayed from my PS3 through my Router to my PC and back to the router than the internet) but ya any feed back on these issues would be kool
