E3 Flasher for NOR Fat PlayStation 3 Console is Reviewed

Sponsored Links
157w ago - I received my E3 Flasher a couple of hours ago from [Register or Login to view links] and here is my review.

Packaging:

The E3 flasher comes in a nice big box, it's actually bigger than I expected it to be and it contains 3 inner boxes.

The first box contains all the important stuff like the Nor flasher, main board and the cover board which connects to the pins on the main board.

The second box contains all the accessories and cables like the Esata USB cable which is not used with the E3 flasher at all and is probably for use with the PC or something like that it also contains the Esata cable which is used with the E3 flasher and the power adapter which didn't fit in my power socket because it wasn't the right shape (different region), so I had to go of and buy a power adapter converter thing so the Esata station will work.

For the accessories they included a power switch for PS3 slim users and a metal case for the main board to sit in where the HDD usually sits but a screw driver wasn't included like they mentioned.

The third box contains the Esata station and it is the biggest and heaviest box out of the three.

Installation:

I installed the E3 flasher a NOR fat PS3 (after I fixed a broken Blu-ray drive and the YLOD on it), I'll install it on a slim PS3 in a few days and tell you how it compared to installing it on the Fat PS3.

Installing the NOR flasher clip on the PS3 is the easy part, it fits on but not too well so I decided to add some sticky tape to it to hold it on so it won't break off. But then I had to find a way to connect the NOR flasher to the main board (which sat where the HDD usually is) without breaking it, I did this by slightly twisting the NOR flasher and connecting it to the main board making it look a bit like a ribbon, this way I won't damage it.

After all that I closed my PS3 like I normally would and I was done. It would have been nice if they added a guide on how to install it on a FAT PS3 the same way they had a guide on how to install for the Slim PS3 but they still added some pictures as a guide (which I have attached) so that still helped a little bit.

Downgrading:

Before I did this I had to upgrade my PS3 to 3.73 FW so it will work. Downgrading using the E3 flasher was by far the most confusing thing I've ever done with my PS3, first of all I needed to add some files (e3_downgrade.bin and update.bin) to a Micro SD card which they hadn't included. So I had to use my Micro SD card from my Nokia N97.

After following some more steps I had to put some more files onto a flash drive (UPDAT.PUP and Lv2diag.self) and then follow some more steps to downgrade (I won't go in depth because there are too many steps to mention).

I successfully downgraded my 3.73 PS3 after a very long and confusing procedure and then I installed multiMAN on it, mutliMAN and the games ran normally on it.

Overall:

I give the E3 flasher a 7/10

+ Easy to install.
+ Good packaging.
+ Smart Design.

- Confusing guides with bad English making it very confusing, would've been nice if the guides were in better English or better yet if they made a video. (Download the downgrade guide to see what I mean)
- No Micro SD included.

If you can find this product for around $50 and want to downgrade I suggest you buy it, hopefully there will be more guides on how to use the E3 flasher so more people like me won't be so confused.

Below are the pictures of the product, the ones with E3-tech on it are from the guide on how to install it on a fat PS3 and the rest are my pictures. I'm sorry I didn't take pictures of me installing it on the motherboard (I kind of forgot), I will next time I install it on my PS3 slim.

Also big thanks to LighTake.com, I got my E3 flasher shipped to me from Hong Kong to Australia within 4 days which was actually pretty fast.

Tell me guys, how to downgrade firmware 3.55 to 3.41, with a broken drive by the E3 Card Reader?

Problem such, the console is turned on, then a black screen, and after a few seconds it turns off, it may have other methods of recovery?

I actually had this question recently myself as I too was getting ready to buy one. The answer I got with a helpful tutorial from playerkp420 was no using the noFSM Method.

That what I was told to do and it worked great. Downgraded 2 PS3's that way:

noFSM METHOD - No FSM dongle needed, and will not format your HDD

1. After making your backups continue here and leave your PS3 on. There is no need to reboot. If you patched your dump with the validation guide in Chapter 1, you can skip to step 8.
2. Download PS3 Flash Tool v4.55.rar ([Register or Login to view links]) if your PS3 is on OFW 4.55. Or download PS3 Flash Tool v4.60.rar ([Register or Login to view links]) if your PS3 is on OFW 4.60. Using the one for your firmware version, will allow your PS3 to boot to the XMB. You can still use either if on a lower OFW, but will boot to a recovery screen instead. Where you can install the CFW from there. So doesn't really matter what version you use.
3. Extract to Desktop or where ever you like.
4. Put your bkpps3.bin in the PS3 Flash Tool folder.
5. Drag and drop the bkpps3.bin onto ps3_dump_tool.exe
6. The program will open, validate (Hopefully you already validated above. But at least this may tell you if you missed something.), and ask if you want to patch it. Say yes and wait for it to apply the patches.
7. Now there will be a new file named bkpps3_NOR_patched.bin.
8. Delete all files from your sd card and put the bkpps3_NOR_patched.bin on it, renamed to bkpps3.bin
9. Put the sd card in the flasher.
10. Put all switches down on flasher. And press the red reset button under the esata plug on the faceplate.
11. Press start on flasher, and wait for blue leds to light up 1 by 1. When done lights will alternate flash. [You will need the blu ray drive and the HDD, attached for the next steps. So if you are going to remove the flasher, now would be the time to do so. Rebuild and change the thermal compound, with Artic Silver 5.]
12. Reboot PS3 from XMB or simply turn it on.
13. On boot you should see "please connect controller screen" (If your PS3 is on OFW 4.55 and you patched to 4.55, or on 4.60 and patched to 4.60 you will boot to the XMB. You can Install 4.55 CFW or later of your choice [for easier changing CFWs later on, I strongly suggest using the 3.55_Rogero_Dowgrader_RSOD.PUP ([Register or Login to view links]), and finish the rest of the guide] from XMB -> Settings -> System Update)
14. If you were on any other OFW than 4.55 and get the "please connect controller screen" then CONNECT THE CONTROLLER!
15. Put 4.55 CFW or later of your choice [for easier changing CFWs later on, I strongly suggest using the 3.55_Rogero_Dowgrader_RSOD.PUP ([Register or Login to view links]), and finish the rest of the guide] of your choice on your flash drive like this:

[Register or Login to view code]

If you are on OFW 4.55, you have to install 4.55 CFW or a CFW that syscon is changed to a higher version. If you are on OFW 4.55, use 4.55 CFW or higher. I strongly suggest using 3.55_Rogero_Dowgrader_RSOD.PUP ([Register or Login to view links]), then continue with Qa Flag and Installing OFW 3.55. Then update to any CFW. This will make for easier downgrading back to 3.55 or switching CFWs later. Qa Flag can not be enabled on 4.50, 4.53, or 4.55.

WARNING: If Minimum version checker said your PS3 can only go to 3.56, Do not use rogero downgrader. Use this REBUG 4.46.1 REX with syscon changed to 9.99 ([Register or Login to view links]). Then install Rebug toolbox from Package Manager>Install Package Files>PS3 Hard Disk. Open the toolbox and go all the way right, and enable Qa flag.

Then you can install any CFW you want, from the recovery menu or using Condor Updater ([Register or Login to view links]). Then you are done, and would only need to install any homebrew apps you want. First one I would suggest is multiMAN 04.60.00 BASE CEX.pkg] ([Register or Login to view links].

Get either Rogero 4.55 v1.00 from here, or REBUG 4.46.1 LITE or REX CFW, or Habib 4.60 or REBUG 4.53.3U REX COBRA. Always download CFWs from a trusted place and check the md5s of any firmware you are going to install, with this tool: [Register or Login to view links]

16. Insert into the right usb port of the PS3 and follow the on screen instructions, hold start and select. Or install from XMB system update if the PS3 was on OFW 4.55.
17. You will now boot to CFW.
18. If you went straight to 4.50, 4.53, or 4.55 CFW, Install the CFW again from System Update in the XMB. This will fill both ros0 and ros1 in the flash, to the same version. I have experienced some errors, when not installing the CFW 2 times. And is why I suggest using the downgrader pup and continuing with Qa Flag, etc...
