Hermes released a modified PSGroove version for running PS3 backups without a disc in the drive, and today
Ulmez on Elotrolado.net (linked above) has updated the installer to PS3 JailBreak Backup Manager 2 along with a Compatible Games list (below).

This Backup Manager lets
/bdvd link to
app_home/PS3_GAME so to load your PS3 game backup with this manager will need to have one of the
Hermes hex codes on your device. To install it just overwrite the existing one, you do not have to delete the currently installed Backup Manager.
Once you have Jailbroken your PS3 you can launch the backup manager. Select the game you want to load and press X. It should then drop you back to the XMB. Now select app_home/PS3_GAME and press X. If all went well your game should load without a disc in the drive.
Not all games are work yet with Backup Manager 2 without a game disc in the drive, with an internal or external hard disk drive, so in the
PS3 JailBreak Game Compatibility List add "Backup Manager 2" to the notes section if you used it in your results.
Here are my Backup Manager 2 PS3 game results thus far:
• 3D Dot Hero - External HDD - Working
• Donates Inferno - External HDD - Black Screen System Lockup
• Boarderlands - External HDD - Black Screen System Lockup

To install it is not necessary to remove the previous one, just what you copy to a flash drive and instalais. The console will tell you that already exists and you will be prompted to overwrite it (if the ID matches, leads the original), you accept and go. Also respect your installed games on the hard disk, which is welcome.
IMPORTANT #1
It is important to you to know that not having a disc in the console BluRay icon appears in the XMB, you ought to go to the "app / games" to load from there select the match after the Backup Manager.
IMPORTANT #2
Some games do not load if no disk in drive nonetheless. Apparently not too many, but can be solved by inserting a disc, as with the original Backup Manager. Not a problem if the Backup Manager or PSGroove.
Remember that it is necessary to have the latest revision of PSGroove with Hermes changes

My modchip has the hermes payload, but until now i've been using ti with backup Manger 1.0, so i always had to use a disc inside ps3.
Now i've downloaded the backupManger2.zip from the first post of this thread, but when i try to instll it, it tries to overwrite the old BM. (i want to keep old one, and i understand the overwriting attempt happens only caz the new BM is name the same as old one).
so anyone got a hermes compatible backup manager that launches games from the old BM1.0 games directory.
on page 4 or 5 there's a bunch of new BM2.0 versions but they all load from hdd0/Gamez. instead of loading from hdd0/launch12345/gamez.
i've gotta little problem here, and im in real hope that someone of you got the idea i need.
Im the owner of a FAT 40GB PS3 with an external HDD with 1TB volume, FAT32 formatted. Also im using a "XBOX 360 USB SPI NAND FLASHER" to jailbreak my PS3 with the following flash : PSGrooPICv1.5_HERMES_BOOTLOADER_USB_SPI_LED_on_B1
tried other available 12mhz flashes, too the jailbreak itself works like a charme. Ps3 boots in debug, ftp tool, BUM and filemanager runs fine (btw, the ftp tool is extremely slow here, but that's another issue)
i've copied the following games to internal AND external drive :
Heavy Rain
Killzone 2
Only to the external goes GOD OF WAR 3
Folders are :
dev_hdd/game/LAUN12345/GAMEZ, and
dev_usb0/GAMEZ
Games are recognized correctly by BUM2 (different modified versions tried)
For now its all cool... if i start Killzone 2 - the ps3 directly hangs up. complete lockoff .. no xmb, just black screen
if i start Heavy rain ive gotta error after BUM because of bad trophies or something like that, after that i returned to xmb i click on APP-Start_PS3_Game-blah, then the tv goes black, but the ps3 is online! (XMB works). AFter 10 minutes of wait nothing happens same on HDD and USB. So, God of War wont boot, too.
if i start GOW, BUM returns to XMB (think this SHOULD BE the right way) after that i click again on PS3 app start GAME thing, and then the ps3 locked up. black screen, no reaction on anything.. compatibility list said that killzone 2 and gow3 are compatible with this BUM, but not here :-(
i really hope, that someone got an idea here :-/
the problem is, that the BD Drive of my PS3 is defective, so i didnt have other options
