Moving on to the related OzMod news, their site has also been updated today to include a new 3.50 downgrade service using the Infectus PS3 Mod. Unfortunately this is only available to Australian's as an overnight service and isn't available to international customers. At $94.99 is this really worth it though? We know a free version is right around the corner and is only a matter of days away.

From their page: With the help (well they did almost everything) of a developer, we are finally able to offer a service which allows us to restore firmware 3.15 on a Fat console. This firmware version will bring the ability to install Linux back to the console!

It is no secret that the PS3 is popular console and its current advertising tagline is that the console "Only Does everything". Unfortunately it came under fire this year when they start removing advertised features. The biggest uproar was over the removal of the option to install linux on 3.21 firmware and above.

It has caused Sony to be caught up in a bunch of legal battles worldwide. 1 of them was in Australia. The Australian argued in court that it was unfair to remove an advertised feature with a firmware upgrade.

There is always the option of not upgrading, but many people did not think the option would just dissapear! When you agree to Sony's terms and conditions, which would take you about 5 hours of non stop reading, they pretty much can do anything to your console. Unfortunately, regardless of what is fair and what is not fair between normal people, when it goes to court its just a bunch of words, and who can argue the best to the judge! Politics aside...

The whole downgrade this was done a while ago by Team Infectus, and we have figured out how to do it on newer consoles. It will involved us opening your console, soldering a million wires, extracting your NAND, patching it, and flashing a new NAND on. It doesn't matter what firmare you are on currently (we test on a 3.5 console) we can bring it back on 3.15





So far we have tested a couple of consoles, and it is working well. 1 thing to make sure you know... We only really extract the KEYs from your NAND. So everything else will be wiped clean, as the donar NAND we flash on is just a normal factory settings NAND.

Please make sure you backup all of your important content. Profiles, save games, etc!!! Everything, and I mean everything will dissapear.

Not sure what happened if you do a full backup and retore. we woudl guess that it wouldn't work, because the firmware is loewer on the restore, not higher!

Geohot also proved that its possible to have custome updates. Befroe he left the PS3 scene he said he was working on getting linux on 3.15 for Slim consoles. We hope the developer who is working us will be able to do the same thing, but no luck yet.

From 3.15, you can go to any firmware you want. Since 3.15 is the last firmware before all of this mess started, we will just put it to there.

  • 3.15 firmware is the last firmware that Linux can be installed on
  • 3.21 blocks Linux and doesn't really bring anything new.
  • 3.3 and 3.4 are just small updates, nothing major
  • 3.41 is the most famous firmware I guess, the one that got us into trouble and made us all sad pandas with no money.
  • 3.42 is like 3.41, but they removed some feature
  • 3.50 add 3D for movies etc, but stops you from being able to use a lot fo 3rd party USb devices, like controllers etc.

Please don't email us about the possibility of helping you with customise your ps3. We are just putting 3.15 back on, the rest it up to you!

This process takes us about 4 hours currently!! All consoles will be done overnight, not on the spot. We should be charging more for this, but we think it will be popular and we hire great solderers!

The E3 Card Reader is selling for a really great price and unless the psjailbreak team have another ace or two up there sleves, this should be a final nail in the coffin of there business venture.
