153w ago - Today Sony has finally spoken out against the recent PS3 Hacks stating they plan to fix the security breaches through a series of PlayStation Network updates including fraudulently unlocked PS3 Trophies.
To quote from ComputerAndVideoGames.com (linked above): "Earlier this week, hackers completely tore apart the console's few remaining lines of defence against running unauthorised code, and subsequently released the first custom PS3 firmware.
Sony has remained quiet on the issue until now, having just told our friends at Edge: "We are aware of this, and are currently looking into it. We will fix the issues through network updates, but because this is a security issue, we are not able to provide you with any more details."
Hacking groups don't believe this will be possible though, telling the BBC: The complete console is compromised - there is no way back. The only way to fix this is to issue new hardware. Sony will have to accept this."
Sony went on to tell CVG the following, to quote: "We are aware of this, and are currently looking into it," an SCEE spokesperson told CVG. "We will fix the issues through network updates, but because this is a security issue, we are not able to provide you with any more details."

The reason $ony wont ban console is coz there is nothing done to the console. As soon as you remove the jailbreak dongle and reboot its a normal console. It's not like you have to break the seal to put in a modchip. it's totally undetectable. If they start banning consoles they would have a lot of lawsuits of all these consoles banned for no valid reason.
You change the HDD and dont put in the dongle and prove to me its been jailbroken... You cant so they cant ban any consoles yet.
Have you also heard of a PSP being banned? 2 very good valid reasons why $ony haven't started banning consoles. Now would people stop bringing it up as its $ony not money hungry Micro$oft.
Oh, about $ony, they have put their hands over their ears and dont want to hear whats going on. When they wake up to the fact there is nothing they can do then I guess they will have a huge cry about it and we will hear that one.
They might just stop all development for the PS3 and release the PS4 as an attempt to stop the hacking.
But they will have to totally redo all the security for the PS4.
Maybe they will bring out the slim2 with new security and firmware only for that model and force everyone to buy the new console to play the new games... The phat and slims will have the last firmware as 3.55 or 3.60 with a hope of fooling us but they will only be fooling themselves.
Anyway, no matter what they do they lost and they brought it on themselves by releasing the slim without OtherOS giving the hackers a reason to hack the console.
Then when they removed it from all PS3s is when they really pissed off the hackers and had no chance from then on. The hackers were going to win and this has proven it.
Makes me wonder that everybody welcomes homebrew (to be honest, for 99% of all people it means piracy.. No need to pretend that it doesn't), but nobody thinks about banning.. Seriously, do you think Sony won't distinguish the "homebrew" consoles and untouched one?
And until now, I haven't seen a word about unbanning and so on.. Yeah, XBOX can be unbanned, but hell, can it be done on PS3?
All I can say is in comparison, in the Xbox world the hacker(s) who release custom DVD drive firmware always say their "stealth" firmware hacks can never be detected... then Microsoft suddenly pulls off a wave of console banning.
The people hacking the PS3 should not be so arrogant as to say that Sony can never re-secure the console. These are often the same hackers who go around saying "anything can be hacked" so they're just being hypocrites at that point. To use an old cliche, Never say never.
Don't get me wrong, I'm excited about all the potential there is now that the PS3 is hacked but it all seems like a bunch of over-inflated ego's talking and few are being realistic or objective about it.
