Sponsored Links
114w ago - After over 60 pages of forum discussion, today I present a Tales of Graces F guide and repack tools for those interested in getting it running fully translated on PS3 Custom Firmware (CFW) 3.55, as follows:

What you will need:

  • JP release of the game (BLJS10093)
  • US release of the game (BLUS30903)
  • 15GB of free space recommended

  • quickbms (aluigi.altervista.org/quickbms, first link at the top)
  • unpack script cpk_ndc.bms (attached)
  • repack tools & fixed files - [Register or Login to view links] (~127MB)

Preparations:

  • Make a new empty folder somewhere, for example C:/talesfix
  • Extract the contents of gracesfix.zip to here.
  • You can place quickbms and the script anywhere, they don't have to be in this folder. Extract the zip that contains the bms file too.

  • Copy rootR.cpk from the japanese game (BLJS10093/PS3_GAME/USDIR) to here and rename it to rootR_JP.cpk
  • Copy map0R.cpk from the american release (BLUS30903/PS3_GAME/USDIR) to here and rename it to map0R_US.cpk
  • Copy map1R.cpk from the american release (BLUS30903/PS3_GAME/USDIR) to here and rename it to map1R_US.cpk

  • Make these new folders in your talesfix folder : jp_files, us_files, map0r_files, map1r_files
  • Your talesfix folder should now look like as on the attached picture

Unpacking:

  • open quickbms
  • select the script file (cpk_ndc.bms)
  • select the japanese rootR.cpk
  • select the jp_files folder

  • open quickbms
  • select the script file (cpk_ndc.bms)
  • select the american rootR.cpk
  • select the us_files folder

  • open quickbms
  • select the script file (cpk_ndc.bms)
  • select the american map0R.cpk
  • select the map0r_files folder

  • open quickbms
  • select the script file (cpk_ndc.bms)
  • select the american map1R.cpk
  • select the map1r_files folder

Repacking:

  • Start FIX_ROOTR.BAT
  • It will ask you for your preferred voices (jap/eng)
  • It will make a new file called rootR_fixed.cpk

  • Start FIX_MAP0R.BAT
  • It will make a new file called map0R_fixed.cpk

  • Start FIX_MAP1R.BAT
  • It will make a new file called map1R_fixed.cpk

Transfer:

  • Copy the japanese game to your PS3
  • Rename rootR_fixed.cpk to rootR.cpk and copy over the original
  • Rename map0R_fixed.cpk to map0R.cpk and copy over the original
  • Rename map1R_fixed.cpk to map1R.cpk and copy over the original
  • If you don't want japanese movies copy the american movie files (bink folder)
  • Copy the latest translated EBOOT over the original
  • Enjoy

Latest translated EBOOT:

  • English chest passwords*
  • Story Battles
  • How-to Battles
  • Title Abilities & Effects
  • Food Effects
  • Discoveries
  • Typo fixes ("cloak fix")
  • An important translation change of Bench EXP/SP/HP titles

*for English chest passwords be sure to use the latest chest fixed files (Aug.15)

I just finished a new tool which can replace all files in the rootR. I also attach a modified unpacker script that dumps all files still compressed and a modded tocdump (dumpextsize) that only makes a filelist, but this time it saves the uncompressed size of the files. You will only need this list.

To repack, place all the files (uncompressed or not, doesn't matter) to a directory. For best results, unpack both US and JP keeping compression then copy the files from the US dir over the JP dir. This means you can also use big files like voices. Running the repacker it will take some time since has to check 2111 files, but it will finish.

I can't test the results right now but the new file should work correctly with the unpack script.
Note that this only works with the (JP) rootR.cpk, with exactly 2111 files.

About the trophies, it could work, there are some differences in the data part, but most of the file is same in both versions. Or we can just replace the text in it, it looks like they are in same order.

there are minor visual gliches, like the numbers are too close to each other in the menu, there is a black bar when you enter a new place (missing texture?), and some letters may not show if the skit line is too long, but nothing serious with the gameplay.

i don't remember problems with monster names, but I will check it.

I tested just now, extract the files from the U.S. version and JP version and replace the U.S. files in the JP folder according to rootR_newfiles and change the folder name jp_files to us_files and used the cpkforp to make the rest, so whats works.. title texture 100% menu texture 100% dialogues 100% names of the characters 100% map, dungeos, cityes names 100%, and the rest of texts in menu are works fine but still in japanese.

the only error I saw was on the menu of the monsters. perhaps an error related to these files book_users.bin book_enemy.bin book_discovery.bin book_collect.bin remembering that I just modified the rootR.cpk, the map0R.cpk and map1R.cpk have not changed or replaced by US version

I have tested with the japanese ones, at least it gave no errors in the game font, after I do some more tests, any progress I tell you.

is it possible to get the trophy list replaced with the US one?

another thing I forgot to tell (i hope this is the last ) is that I already checked the files with windiff, and included on the new list only the different ones, except the acf dir, the voice files and things like save icons. I used Dimkaua's post on page 5 as a reference.

that revolution translation tool for the demo could replace everything, I wonder what they did. it didn't patch files, but patched them in memory I think.

edit: those leaked cpk 1.1 tools let you compress, if you can use the dll in your program you can do it.

edit2: I couldn't get those cpks inside the cpk (menus ones) packed in because of 2GB error, but I could get all the folders except "snd" and "btl" packed. maybe I could pack in "btl" too gotta try again. it works with the new cpk and it's almost all english with the new eboot but still lots of things in the menus are gibberish/null font.
