Rogero CFW4.40 v1.02 Changelog:

  • v1.00 (initial build)
  • v1.01 (private beta build)
  • This CFW can be installed fine from XMB Update over OFW3.55 or any CFW ver: 3.55/4.21/4.30/4.40
  • Added the Cinavia Patched Video Player to disable the Cinavia Protection on HDD based content.
  • Added the needed patches for the Original "*[Register or Login to view links]" Credits to Szalay and "hidden Man".
  • HDD can be swapped/changed and the CFW will re-install without any problem.
  • Patched LV1 to disable LV2 Protection.
  • Patched LV1 to add peek/poke support.
  • Patched LV1 Core OS Hash Check (to prevent Bricking on non-dehashed downgraded consoles)
  • Patched LV2 to add peek/poke support.
  • QA Flag enabled by default to allow for easier downgrading using Recovery Menu.
  • RSOD screen bypass patch for RSOD machines (it won't fix the RSOD but allows the PS3 to boot fine into XMB)
  • PSN/SEN access is available as long as the current "passphrase" still the same but it's not recommended.
  • It can run games signed with Keys up to version 4.40 without any Eboot/Sprx patching needed.
  • The CFW can be used directly for Downgrading with Hardware flashers using the new tool "PS3 Nor and Nand Auto Patcher v0.04".

From Rogero: The Changelog never said that the CFW had the ReactPSN patch, vsh.self on 4.40 is different from the 4.30 version so the old reactPSN patch won't work until ported again to 4.40 (I never used reactPSN before personally so I didn't bother about it)

I never reply for such comments usually, but I decided to reply now for the sake of clearing up some facts that you obviously don't know:

  • The first 4.21 CFW released by me was something very new and different from the 3.55 CFWs, and It was only a cracked version of the BlueDisk CFW that wanted to charge users online to install it. (all the bugs and bricks resulted in the fist 4.21CFW were coming from the BlueDisk CFW itself, i just cracked it by removing the module responsible of the DRM checks in the CFW, I didn't build the CFW itself) and that was done quickly just to prevent any DRM story from taking place into the scene again like TrueBlue... (maybe i should have let it alone and never cared ...)
  • The 4.30 CFW versions were the first 4.xx builds from scratch using OFW4.30 files, Sony have added a lot of security measures since 3.55 and building a 4.xxCFW was so much different and harder then 3.55CFW especially having a way to add the "install package" feature again was a real challenge (until Szalay released the correct patch for it, Thanks Szalay) since the DEX4.30 FW was not available yet, so we worked out many solutions and improvements through many versions of the 4.30 CFW until CFW4.30 v2.05 which basically had everything fixed and running great. (while there was not still any other 4.30 CFW running as stable as v2.05)
  • Then DEX4.30 was leaked and made public so it was normal to see other CFW released then without going through all the steps mentioned earlier... Anyway, I barely have free time to work on scene releases lately, my personal work is expanding a lot and i started to lose interest in the scene too.

Finally, from CaptainCPS-X: Guys DO NOT update to Rogero CFW 4.40 v1.02 (if you did just install Rogero CFW 4.30 v2.05 from XMB again if you like). I do not recommend it since everything that has to do with reActPSN is not working, PS2 Classics, DLC, PSOne, PSN games, etc.

I'm sure Rogero know his thing, but don't install this yet until we know:

VERY IMPORTANT: Can you install future CFWs on this CFW? in other words, is it modified to accept 3.55 signed PUPs because ofw 4.21 obviously doesn't if this doesn't do that, you''ll be stuck on this FW without a hardware flasher. unable to install future CFW.

so if you don't have a flasher, DON'T INSTALL. It should work but we don't know about the future yet.

Following up on today's PS3 LV0 Keys leak news, PlayStation 3 scene developer Rogero has now updated his Rogero CEX PS3 Custom Firmware (CFW) to version 4.21 complete with a Dehashing / Syscon Reset tutorial for downgraded consoles below!

To quote: Rogero CEX-4.21 CFW v1.00 Free for All

ATTENTION

1- This CFW doesn't have LV1 checks disabled and can't be installed on Downgraded PS3 consoles unless you have Dehashed/Reset Syscon Properly (if you're not sure about your PS3, Dehash it anyway to avoid any risk)

2- Always make a NOR/Nand dump using multiMAN or memdump before installing this CFW to have a recovery backup in case of any bricks. Having a valid NOR/Nand dump is an essential step before upgrading, because you will always have a way to recover (using hardware flashers) when you have a valid dump.

A Hardware Flasher alone without a valid dump cannot fix your bricked PS3.

3- It's always better to have QA flag set (leave it Enabled) on your PS3 for safer upgrading/downgrading operations.
4- Always use the Recovery Menu while installing this CFW to avoid possible bricks (XMB update works, but Recovery Menu is safer).
5- TB CFW users must update back to OFW 3.55 before installing this CFW to avoid possible bricks.

v1.00 Info

  • This is a 4.21CFW spoofed to version 4.25 to allow SEN access
  • It can be used as a normal System Update from any 3.55 OFW/CFW/MFW
  • It was tested using a hardware flasher and no bricks or any problems at all were encountered
  • It can run games signed with Keys up to version 4.21 without any Eboot/Sprx patching needed
  • Games must be loaded from Disc Icon (with Original game in BD) and not from app_home
  • Current 3.55 homebrew application can't be loaded on this CFW, applications must be re-signed properly.

Downgrading back to 3.55 is always possible using the following steps:

  • Download the 4.25 downgrader PUP. Download: [Register or Login to view links] Size 176MB (184,595,263 bytes) MD5: 49d80e07fc1f5ca1b0840e02e94635db
  • Rename the downloaded file to "PS3UPDAT.PUP" and put it on your USB in: "USB\PS3\UPDATE\PS3UPDAT.PUP"
  • While on Rogero CFW4.21, go to System Update from XMB and install the 4.25 downgrader CFW.
  • Once installed, now put "Rogero CEX-3.55 CFW V3.7" on your USB in: "USB\PS3\UPDATE\PS3UPDAT.PUP" Download: Rogero CEX-3.55 CFW V3.7.PUP
  • Start the PS3 into Recovery Menu (or use Condor Updater for Slim consoles) and install "Rogero CEX-3.55 CFW V3.7" (from Recovery Menu, this is important)
  • Once the install is finished, you're now back on Rogero CFW3.55 v3.7 (from here it's better to dehash again before installing any other OFW/CFW 3.55)

Credits to eussNL and the PS3 Dev wiki for the valuable and always up-to-date source of information. Credits to Deank for his continuous efforts on Multiman and many other PS3 tools/fixes. You need to already be on 3.55 to install this. Installing from any firmware other than 3.55 will simply not work.

PS3 Dehashing/Syscon Reset Tutorial for Downgraded Consoles

For all owners of PS3 consoles downgraded from 3.55+ using hardware flashers and Rogero_CFW_v3.x

To "Dehash the PS3" (Reset the syscon) and have the PS3 back to normal safer mode like any original ( non Downgraded ) PS3, here are the steps :

1- After completing the downgrade process and having Rogero CFW 3.x up and running, make sure you have the Blu-Ray drive attached or the QA Toggle package won't work.
2- Download the Rebug QA_Toggle package from [Register or Login to view links] ([Register or Login to view links])
3- Put the "toggle_qa.pkg" on USB and Install it on the PS3.
4- Run the "Rebug Toggle QA" from XMB, the screen will go Black and you will see HDD Led activity then if all went fine you will hear one Beep and the PS3 will Restart back to XMB.
5- If you want to make sure QA flag was set, go to "Network Settings" then apply the following key combo (all at the same time):

L1 + L2 + L3 (press left stick) + R1 + R2 + dpad_down

You should see Edy Viewer, Debug Settings, and Install Package Files if done correctly.

6- Now that you have QA flag set, Turn Off your PS3 and Turn it back on but into "Recovery Menu"

This Step is very important, it have to be from "Recovery Menu" and not a normal Update from XMB or the PS3 will Brick.

Here is how to access it:

a. Turn off PlayStation 3.
b. Turn it on and keep Holding The power button down; The system will turn on and turn off once again.
c. Once the System has been shutdown, Turn it on again and keep Holding The power button down (you will hear 1 beep first, keep holding) until you hear 2 consecutive beeps
d. When you hear the 2 beeps take finger off power button.
e. You will be prompted to plug in your controller via usb and then hit the PS button
f. The Recovery menu will pop up.
g. Last Option #6 is what you must use "System Update"

Alternatively you can simply use CondorStrike's Updater package to enter Recovery Menu directly from XMB without going through the boot sequences. Download: [Register or Login to view links]

7- Now you must have any 3.55 OFW or CFW with original (non Patched) LV1 in your "USB:\PS3\UPDATE\PS3UPDAT.PUP", here's a link to 3.55-Kmeaw. Download: Kmeaw355.PUP

8- Select the last option of the Recovery Menu --> System Update, then when prompted press and hold "Start+Select" for 5 seconds to start the update.

Once finished the PS3 will restart into XMB with the Syscon hashes reset back to 3.55 in both "ros0" and "ros1" and your PS3 is back like any original/non Downgraded PS3 that can use any CEX/DEX Fw without having to worry about disabling LV1 checks.

For anyone who have bricked with Green Light and Black Screen, you can try entering Factory Service Mode using a PSGrade Dongle (any old jailbreak dongle flashed with the PSGrade hex file)

Insert the dongle then start the ps3 with (Power then Eject) and if the PS3 shuts off by itself after few seconds which means it entered FSM (Factory Service Mode) you can try inserting a USB stick with the proper "LV2diag.self" + 3.55downgrader.PUP used in the first days of downgrading, if things went right, this could fix the Brick... it worth testing... Please if anyone bricked and can test this method post back the result...

Finally, Raiyou (via bbs.duowan.com/thread-29238182-1-1.html) has posted what is believed to be the problem PS3 models (pictured below) that are bricking as a result of specific boards, mainly JSD as well as having a base version of 3.50 and above including the CECH2025's that have never been downgraded and are still getting bricks.

A PS3 Brick-Recovery Procedure from Rogero CFW 4.21 to CFW 3.55 is also now available for those who need it.

enjoy. great work, Rogero.. we love you!
