29w ago - Following up on his PS3 Brick-Recovery Procedure, today PlayStation 3 scene developer Rogero has updated his PS3 4.21 Custom Firmware to Rogero CEX 4.21 CFW v1.09 which he hopes is brick-free now yet doesn't appear to be.
Compatibility problem with some Slim models (CECH-25xx) is now fully fixed.
XMB Icons problem from in-game PS button is now fixed.
Loading games from App_home Icon is now fixed.
Many other fixes from version 1.00 for a better performance and added stability.
It was tested by hundreds of testers on all PS3 models (FAT & Slim) and no problems were encountered.
It can run games signed with Keys up to version 4.21 without any Eboot/Sprx patching needed
Games can be loaded from Disc Icon (with Original game in BD) and from app_home (Disc-less, but not all games).
Current 3.55 homebrew applications can't be loaded on this CFW, applications must be re-signed properly for FW4.21.
1- This CFW doesn't have LV1 checks disabled and can't be installed on Downgraded PS3 consoles unless you have Dehashed/Reset Syscon Properly (if you're not sure about your PS3, Dehash it anyway to avoid any risk) Link: Dehashing Tutorial (scroll down)
2- Always make a NOR/Nand dump using multiMAN or memdump before installing any CFW to have a recovery backup in case of any bricks. Having a valid NOR/Nand dump is an essential step before upgrading, because you will always have a way to recover (using hardware flashers) when you have a valid dump.
** A Hardware Flasher alone without a valid dump cannot fix your bricked PS3 **
3- The QA flag must be always Enabled on your PS3 for safer upgrading/downgrading operations. Link: toggle_qa.pkg
4- Always use the Recovery Menu while installing this CFW to avoid possible bricks (XMB update works, but Recovery Menu is safer).
6- Please Check the MD5 of the downloaded PUP file before installing any CFW to avoid possible bricks.
7- DO NOT HAVE DISC IN PS3 WHEN UPDATING FIRMWARES.. As the PS3 will take the UPDATE from the DISC First.
8- You need to already be on 3.55 to install this. Installing from any firmware other than 3.55 will simply not work
Downgrading back to 3.55 is always possible using the following steps:
Note: Guys... after updating from CFW4.21 v1.00 to CFW4.21 v1.09 make sure to delete the GameData of any game that stopped to work now on v1.09 (due to the spoof 4.25 being removed, previous GameData should be deleted and reinstalled again so the game can load properly)
I've already tested the Rogero v1.09, NO BRICKS. I've tested it on the same 3 PS3s that had bricked on the v1.00 version before. Enjoy!

Below is a video tutorial from GameBlamer on YouTube demonstrating how to dump PS Vita games via the recently released PS3 CFW 4.21.
It has not been confirmed yet and I am not the uploader, I just found it randomly so consider it a proof-of-concept if it ends up working or an 'entertainment purposes only' video if not.
The video is partly in English and part in German, and although it can be followed if anyone wishes to translate the German parts to English or make a new video let us know and we will update this article with it... those interested can check it out below!
Finally, from wololo (via wololo.net/2012/10/25/backing-up-vita-games-using-the-new-4-21-cfw-by-rogero/) on the above video to quote:
Backing up Vita games using the new 4.21 CFW by Rogero
Have you ever worried about Sony's financial situation, and what would happen to your hard earned Cash if they were to close? I certainly have.
For a long while now Sony have not been in the best financial state and could possibly face bankruptcy in the future. If this were to happen, then their servers would go down, meaning that there would be no more PSN/SEN, subsequently all of your purchased media would just vanish into thin air.
However, this is no longer an issue! (At least for those who own a Playstation 3). With the release of the LV0 keys, and CFW on 4.21, if you were lucky and updating didn't brick your console, then this is for you. For those of you who do not have 4.21 at present, fear not! There are apparently multiple people working on getting CFW on 4.25 and even 4.30 (and considering they have the LV0 keys, that probably won't take too long).
Be advised however. I have not tested this since I am still on 3.55, but the person who posted this is rather reliable from my own personal experience.
If any of you are able to test this then please let us know! If not, sit tight - it won't be long!
Please be advised that this video is mostly in German, but it's easy enough to follow.
i darent drop down to 3.55 again cos i don't know hiow it would affect the spoofer that i left activated and just deleted. i'm assuming it will be dead cos theres an inbuilt spoofer in the fw
i assume that the install of the cfw wrote over the files the spoofer was using anyway, and if not i think it was rogeros spoofer i was using anyway, so probably same files, i've no idea really, just glad i was lucky
I'll do just that. I'm just hoping there will be a release of an updated pkg and I'll be able to deactivate and uninstall. If there's an update to Rogero's CFW whether it be 4.25 or 4.3 or whatever, I don't want that to be a cause of my bricking. Regardless, it's my fault for jumping the gun without double checking everything.
