From PatrickBatman: Play from external: delete EXTRASCIN1.PSARC & EXTRASCIN2.PSARC in USRDIR. Open ARCHIVES file and overwrite with this:

In USRDIR folder (if english is your native language) I got rid of these files and the the multiplayer files if you don't plan on playing online. You can also use this setup below to play from external (you need disc in on both)

Delete (in USRDIR):

Delete (in PS_EXTRA) folders:

I didn't delete D000 because that's the game manual (doesnt take much space 35 MB). You could prolly delete the entire PS_EXTRA folder but I haven't tested this. Then in USRDIR open the file named ARCHIVES on PC and replace with this:

The 15 seems to be the # of files in this ARCHIVES file, as I've also kept MP-RESOURCES.PSARC MULTIPLAYER.PSARC and the number that worked was 17. The original ARCHIVES file was 19 which is when the two giant EXTRASCIN psarc files aren't removed so that would make sense this top number is only the amount of file names in the ARCHIVES file itself. If you count the files below the #15 there are 15 files.

Anyway, with this setup you save 20 GB space and can play on both internal and external with nothing else selected and disc in.

Related File List: BCUS98232 44.16 GB version (American version from disc, not DUPLEX)

From alwayshungry: On Rebug 4.3.1 this is what I did: How to play the game from external hdd:

Kept these 2 files in USRDIR: EXTRASCIN1.PSARC and EXTRASCIN2.PSARC on my PC and moved the rest to external USB HDD. Use the notepad that cames with windows7 to edit the ARCHIVES file to this:

Save the file and play from external hdd. In the 2 files are extra videos (nothing from the game)! Am at level 13 and no problems! NO EBOOT EDITING, NO UPDATE, NOTHING.

Finally, from a555na: GOWA works 100% external 3.55. Edited archives file with notepad in USRDIR. Changed 17 to 15 in the first line, and then removed the following lines:

Policenauts is a cinematic adventure game, with a hard science fiction storyline published by Konami, written and directed by Hideo Kojima. It was initially released for the PC-9821 computer platform in 1994, followed by remade versions for the 3DO in 1995, and the PlayStation and Sega Saturn in 1996. The game has never been officially released outside Japan, despite plans for an English localization of the Saturn version. On August 24, 2009 (in honor of the 46th birthday of the game designer, Hideo Kojima), an unofficial English translation patch was released onto the internet.

For the last 4 years I have enjoyed the hard word of others and have never been able to say thank you for saving me some time and money. Well this is my way of saying thanks and saving some other people.

Suikoden II (pronounced SWEE-KO-DEN) is a console role-playing game developed and published by Konami for the PlayStation video game console and the second installment of the Suikoden video game series. It was released in 1999 in North America. The game features a vast array of characters, with over 100 characters usable in combat and many more who move the plot forward.

Suikoden II takes place years after the events of the original Suikoden, and centers around an invasion by the Kingdom of Highland of the City States of Jowston. The player controls a quiet protagonist whose name is chosen by the player (named Riou in the Japanese novelization and Drama CD adaptation and Tao in the manga adaptation); he is the adopted son of Genkaku, a hero who saved the City-State of Jowston in a war against Highland years ago.

The protagonist and his best friend, Jowy Atreides, each gain one half of the Rune of the Beginning, one of the 27 True Runes of the Suikoden setting, and become caught up in the intrigues of the invasion and the dark fate of those who bear the halves of that Rune.
