12h ago - Producer Geoff Keighley invites PlayStation 4 fans to watch The Last of Us: One Night live on Monday July 28, 2014 with details and a PS4 video preview below.

To quote: I love great video game stories. Today, the narrative potential of our medium has never been greater. The best video games blend world-class acting, writing, music and gameplay to create art that rivals the best works in other entertainment mediums.

To celebrate that point, I'm excited to announce an experimental project I've been working on with Naughty Dog and PlayStation.

On Monday July 28th, one of last year's most acclaimed games, [Register or Login to view links], will come to the theatrical stage in Los Angeles for a special one-night-only performance.

One Night Live will highlight the artistry behind The Last of Us with a live reading of select scenes by the principal actors, under the direction of Neil Druckmann from Naughty Dog.

Scheduled to appear are Troy Baker, Ashley Johnson, Merle Dandridge, Hana Hayes, and Annie Wersching. In addition, Academy Award winning composer Gustavo Santaolalla will perform selections from his score. How this all fits together will remain a bit of a...

Video: The Unlikely Hero of Styx: Master of Shadows on PS4

3d ago - Game Director Julien Desourteaux posted up a video today spotlighting the unlikely hero of Styx: Master of Shadows on PS4 below.

To quote: Styx: Master of Shadows is a stealth game set in a dark, mature, fantasy universe. Our goal was to return to the roots of the genre and revisit it through a unique character: Styx - a nimble, sneaky, sarcastic goblin.

We want to offer a real challenge to the player, with a game requiring strategy and reflection. Players really have to take care of many details to progress in a level. But to make things fair, players have powerful tools at their disposal that they'll have to use wisely.

Who is Styx?

Fragile and far removed from the brute hero that kicks butt, our goblin is a skillful assassin that excels at hiding.

Obsessed with the Amber, Styx would do absolutely anything to reach the source of this substance - the Heart of the Tree. Extremely cunning, he'll always find a solution to achieve this objective, by whatever means necessary.

What is Amber?

The Amber - a powerful and rare substance - gives Styx a wide array of magical powers, such as invisibility, enhanced senses, or even the ability to summon and control...

Sony Goes Hands-on with Destiny PlayStation 4 Beta, Details

4d ago - Sony Social Media Specialist Justin Massongill went hands-on today with the Destiny PlayStation 4 Beta with details below.

To quote: Today, PS4 and PS3 owners will get a chance to experience Bungie's galaxy-spanning epic [Register or Login to view links] for the first time.

Assuming the role of a newly revived Human, Awoken, or Exo, players will explore the ruins of a Russian Cosmodrome and battle hordes of formidable Fallen and feral Hive, all while earning new skills and collecting increasingly effective weapons and armor.

I had an early opportunity to play the Beta, and I've collected my initial notes below. While this post is by no means comprehensive, I hope it'll help get you up to speed before you hop in yourself. And if you're in the Beta, please share your tips, observations, and feedback in the comments below.

If you played or read about Destiny's Alpha last month, you might be wondering what's changed for the Beta. The answer: plenty! Perhaps most notably, the Beta fills in many narrative gaps with pre-rendered and in-engine cinematics, fleshing out more of the backstory and making this feel much more like a world I want to explore.

These scenes are fully voice-acted;...

Sony Goes Hands On with The Last of Us Remastered on PS4

5d ago - Sony Social Media Senior Manager Sid Shuman goes hands-on today with The Last of Us Remastered PS4 on PlayStation 4 with details below.

To quote: With [Register or Login to view links]'s PS4 release just weeks away (July 29th), I dove into a pre-release version of the game to see exactly how Naughty Dog is leveraging PS4's hardware to upgrade last year's biggest Game of the Year winner.

First, there's the immediately noticeable bump in native screen resolution. The jump from 720p (PS3) to native 1080p (PS4) gives the visuals a major shot in the arm. The crisp new presentation banishes those nasty jaggies to the margins, while higher resolution environment textures adorn the lovingly crafted post-apocalyptic environments.

But the kicker is the new framerate. I'll admit to being at least a bit skeptical on hearing that Naughty Dog would target a smoother, more fluid 60 frames per second for The Last of Us Remastered. I wondered whether it would add a distracting layer of artificiality, that it might somehow interfere with the game's cinematic look and feel.

Luckily, based on my hands-on experiences at a recent media event in New York City, those concerns...
