Sony PSN Game Content Activations on PS3 and PSP is Changing

Sponsored Links
143w ago - Previously Sony confirmed that PSN users can activate downloaded games on to up to five different PS3 or PSP systems, but today PlayStation Network Operations VP Gordon Thornton has announced this policy is being changed to only two- possibly to curb game sharing.

One alternative for those on PS3 Custom Firmware is to check out the PlayStation 3 homebrew exdata license reactivation tool ReActPSN which currently reactivates PlayStation Network data.

To quote: We'd like to inform you of some upcoming changes to the usage policies for PlayStation Network game content.

As of November 18, 2011, the number of devices that can be activated on one PlayStation Network account for game content purchased from the PlayStation Store will be updated.

For game content purchased after November 18, 2011, a new policy will apply and the number of devices that can be activated will be as follows:

•PS3: Users will be able to play the game on up to 2 activated PS3 systems.
•PSP: Users will be able to play the game on up to 2 activated PSP systems.

Please note that this update will not affect game content purchased before November 18. The PSP rights include PSP-1000/2000/3000 series as well as the PSPgo system.

PlayStation Network users are able to change the activation setting through each device, and Sony Computer Entertainment plans to provide a new PlayStation Network account management Web site where users will be able to deactivate particular devices attached to their PlayStation Network account via their PC.

For more details on how to activate/deactivate the devices, please read [Register or Login to view links] or contact consumer services.

Finally, Sony notes that game content, including PSone Classics and Minis, purchased from the PlayStation Store after November 18, will be playable on up to 2 PS3 systems and up to 2 portable systems, including PSP, PSPgo and Vita.

I think Sony should do some kind of survey for these kinds of decisions for the consumers...

Well - I have 5 PS3 so screw you Sony - they've already started with this in Europe last year (or even earlier) by limiting it from 5 to 3 ...

With the full RRPs they're charging for digital copies they can stuff it - at least with 5 installations you could have save some money comparing to BD release but with this wheer you can purchase semi-new game on BD for less than half what they're charging on PSN it's not interresting anymore ... and all this crap with online passes on top of it - they're digging their own grave. And then wonders WHY people download games rather than feeding greedy corps.

Sony screwing over the users yet again... One more reason for "hackers" to hack PSP and PS3...

Indeed, although it probably won't affect many JailBroken PS3 owners as they can't use PSN... but it definitely makes things more inconvenient for Sony's legitimate paying customers.
