Go have a look at a PC shop catalog or even a PC shop on the net. Everything is x86 or x64, x86 is the old 32bit where x64 is the new 64bit. Not new but its better and newer than x86 32bit.
Thats what I was getting at. It looks like when they say it'll be x86 it'll be 32bit which is old and nothing is 32bit these days. Have a look at Crysis 3 on the PC. I haven't seen it but I bet it'll say the recommended is a 64bit CPU. It might even say 64bit is minimum? Again I haven't seen it so I cant comment but thats what I'm guessing. They are a few games recently that are 64bit so if they release the PS4 as 32bit then it'll lag behind the PC by many years. Isn't the PS3 64bit????
Its not x86, its x86_64 which is the technical designation for x64. x64 is actually a misnomer since its just an extension on x86 and not really 64bit computing. Most operating systems, including linux, mac, and windows only populate 44bits of address space so you really only have 44bit computing. (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/X86-64)
Also, the 8GB ram that you say lacks power is actually GDDR5 which is equivalent to what they use on graphics cards today. PCs will be moving to DDR4 later next year (I could be wrong here), so this is actually a significant power hike to the playstation environment.
However, do I think or expect that the new xbox will be any better? Probably not. What will be interesting will be the amount of security that is placed on both platforms seeing as how new games will essentially be PC games with dedicated controllers. Hell, its a wonder that we even have new consoles rather than a gaming standards compliance specifications that states the specs needed on every computer to run all games made in lets say 2013 for instance.
GPU, I'm guessing its last gen PC version.
HDD, probably something stupid lile 120GB
I'm not impressed at all with it so far. From what I heard its a lot of hype they also did with the PS3 and never delivered so dont expect everything they said to happen. If they wanted a kick ass system make it better than the latest PCs at least.
Oh another thing. They also said the PS3 had a 10 year lifecycle. I dont think the PS3 has been around for 10 years and they are already replacing it.
With the specs of the PS4 it looks like its got a 2 year lifecycle as the specs are already 5 years old at least. My PC is 5 years old and it kicks butt over those specs.
Anyone else surprised at the 8GB of RAM? I was thinking it would be 4GB at the most.
