Sony Launches 120GB PS3 Slim in Brazil for Over $1000 USD

206w ago - Approximately nine months have passed since the PlayStation 2 was launched in Brazil, and now Sony has made the PS3 Slim 120GB console available there for around $1,130 USD each.

Believe it or not, that is actually $278 less than originally planned from Sony Style stores for the South American country, as Anderson Gracias explains via Kotaku (linked above), to quote:

"According to Anderson Gracias, division manager of Sony PlayStation Brazil, the original price was to be 2,499 Brazil Reais, or $1,408. In order to stay competitive with the Xbox 360, which sells for R $999 to R $1,599 in the country, Sony is subsidizing part of the cost.

Brazil will get the PlayStation Network in three phases, beginning in 2011 with a Portuguese translation. Then Brazilian content will be added, and finally the service will be tweaked to work with the services available in the country."

in Colombia is the same thing, her a PS3 slim costs $1.000.000 thats about us$550 and games costs 200.000 = us$100 but we do have bargains sometime at "sony style" stores but sometimes, we don't have PSN either, i have to create a US account to get access to PSN, buying trom it is very easy whit my american express card, i haven't had any issue with that. i'm even a PSN+ member and enjoy all its beneffits.

To get cheper games i use ebay and amazon, and shippig to Colombia is like 10 bucks so it is not trouble for me, i don't have to pay taxes since i buy games for my personal use and thats allowed by our taxlaw.

Every good brazilian gamer buys everything from overseas, especially from sites like shopto or hkofferhouse or estarland (the 3 being the cheapest for BRs and estarland is specially kind to BR users with some sort of special treatment and deals).

We have the highest tax charges in the world, so this absurd is understandable here.

That's a good way to get cheaper games, thanks dude.

Some of us use eBay too, i get a lot of games that way (and PSN Cards too) for good prices.

For the argentina brothers:

buy used games from uk stores like shopto.net or game.co.uk, fifa 2009 I got for 1,99 gbp and 4 gbp for shipping. If you buy 20 games the shipping is the same. Even if they charge taxes from you in the argentina's custom, it's A LOT cheaper.

I was going to post exactly the same.

To add more madness, game prices NEVER go down here in Argentina. A brand new game for u$s 100 will remain at that price for years. Forget about bargain bin.
And I thought the PS3 systems from colorware were expensive! Count on your governments to milk you for all you have, then milk you some more. Sorry to hear that in SA these systems are so expensive, considering the fact that income is also an important factor there when dealing with these prices.
