161w ago - With the
PS3 Firmware 3.30 update, Sony has
introduced a new Terms Of Service and User Agreement - Version 6.0 (April 21, 2010).
The most interesting is paragraph 11, to cite:
11. MAINTENANCE AND UPGRADES
From time to time, it may become necessary for SCEA to provide certain content to you to ensure that Sony Online Services and content offered through Sony Online Services, your PlayStation 3 computer entertainment system, the PSP (PlayStation Portable) system or other SCEA-authorized hardware is functioning properly in accordance with SCEA guidelines.
Some content may be provided automatically without notice when you sign in. Such content may include automatic updates or upgrades which may change your current operating system, cause a loss of data or content or cause a loss of functionalities or utilities.
Such upgrades or updates may be provided for system software for your PlayStation 3 computer entertainment system, the PSP (PlayStation Portable) system, or other SCEA-authorized hardware. Access or use to any system software is subject to terms and conditions of a separate end user license agreement found at
http://www.us.playstation.com/termsofuse.
You authorize SCEA to provide such content and agree that SCEA shall not be liable for any damages, loss of data or loss of functionalities arising from provision of such content or maintenance services. It is recommended that you regularly back up any archivable data located on the hard disk.
Is it just me, or is Sony trying to cover their bottoms?
I am posting this hopping someone has answer for me like a Bypass maybe? I thought Sony went to far with the 3.21 update, but now the next update is just madness. As a paying Sony Customer i have to say i am not going to agree with their terms of service this time.
Who else feels the same way and has the answer i suppose everyone is looking for now to play online? -- It would be nice to play online without Big brother spying on everything you do!
Let me know what if anyone has any suggestions for me thank you.
I am also stunned at the amazement shown by all on this forum with the actions taken by $ony - what did you expect when EgoSnot made it public that he hacked the PS3. Everyone was excited (except $ony) that now homebrew can be made and run on their ($ony's) own operating system. Something we have to accept is that you can't have the best of both worlds. Make a decision - 1. Stick with OFW and abide by $ony rules - go onto PSN, ply online, no banning etc. or 2. Wait for CFW (when/if that will surface) and bear the consequences of any action for doing so - but you get to keep linux and perhaps (by a long shot) get some things you asked $ony for on your system in 12 months' time.
I must make this clear .... $ONY DOES NOT CARE FOR YOUR SPECIFIC SITUATION!!! They are protecting their own interest. If they did care so much about you the "loyal supporter" (like wonderbra), they would have included those requests in previous FW updates - you know - all the nice things people asked them for like cross game chat, b/c etc etc etc.
I am also sad... don't get me wrong...
Ok it is me being paranoid or not? As I read this "If you do not agree with the new Terms of Service and User Agreement or Privacy Policy, please contact Customer Service to terminate your PlayStation(R)Network account(s) and do not visit PlayStation(R)Network or our websites. Continued use of your PlayStation(R)Network accounts by you or your associated Sub Accounts means that you agree to the new Terms of Service and User Agreement and Privacy Policy. Continued use of any SCEA website means you agree to the new Privacy Policy."
If I do not terminate my PSN account, I may automagically get updated from 3.15 to whatever? I use the PS3 to stream captured MPG movies from my STB via firewire (1394) from a PC media server so it is on the network a lot. I don't need no stinking Blu-ray !
