Sony Blocks PS3 Proxy Methods, PS3 Firmware 3.42 Issues Arise

Sponsored Links
210w ago - A few days ago Sony released PS3 Firmware 3.42 which plugged the PS3 JailBreak exploit, and today they have blocked PlayStation 3 proxy connection methods amid reports of 3.42 update issues.

As of today, to connect to PSN and use your PS3 online users are required to update to Firmware version 3.42 rendering the PS3 Firmware Bypass and DNS methods useless.

Additionally, garyopa reports via [Register or Login to view links] that some users who updated to PS3 Firmware 3.42 are now experiencing various issues, to quote:

"There is numerous reports of 'Sound Problems,' they seem to be the biggest problem, with sound cutting in and out. Also reports of games like COD:MW2, Battlefield 2: Bad Company, Madden 2011 in crashing or not even loading at times.

Of course with every new firmware update, there is the series of reports of 'bricks,' the PS3 just looping, or frozen forever after the update."

Use an external HDD to backup your entire PS3 before swapping the new drive in. If you only have a smaller thumb drive, try deleting all of the GAME DATA stuff. Copy all save games that you can and move them to something else.

Delete all videos, music and photos, ten you may be able to backup the entire HDD on a 4gb thumb drive. The backup utility on the PS3 will compress itself down before dumping a file on your thumb drive or external.

I agree it is strange even with the proxy settings they are able to detect your firmware and asks you to update. If we could figure a way to spoof the firmware version to current it might work or if we could have a current firmware on usb or something and are able to direct the psn to look for firmware from there... Possibilities are endless lol Sony is probally grabbing their hair saying we messed up bad this time...

It's like they told the jbers> look here, take a final look at psn because it going to be looong time before youll see it again

The PS3 uploads data onto the psn for verification, and if it matches the psn server data (3.42=3.42) then it will login, but if it doesnt (3.41!=3.42) then it wont login but ask to be updated. PS3 also checks the update file on the sony server which can bypass until sony patches it.
