241w ago - As part of E3 2010, Sony has officially announced a Surround Sound System for the PlayStation 3 entertainment system which will be available in Japan on September 30, 2010.

The sound bar utilizes Sony's S-Force PRO Front Surround Sound to create rich, deep sounds without the expense of a full surround sound system.

Sony has revealed the device will cost $199, and the device includes two audio inputs: analogue and optical.

To quote: "Users will be able to enjoy immersive audio on the PlayStation 3 system, including upcoming games supporting PlayStation Move motion controllers, Blu-ray movies, as well as stereoscopic 3D content by simply placing the speaker in front of the television and connecting it to the PS3 system with the optical digital cable.

The Surround Sound System comes with two audio inputs âˆ' an optical audio input for connecting high-end entertainment systems including PS3, and an analog audio input for connecting portable devices like the PSP® (PlayStation Portable) system to enjoy listening to music in the living room.

The form factor of the system features a sleek and casual design that matches perfectly with the PS3 system, and delivers dynamic sound without the physical space required by a traditional home theater system."

First of all bub, i don't want any trouble. but if you paid $599 for your PS3 then that's your own fault. Secondly, not everyone has a surround sound system and would much rather prefer the convenience of one speaker.

I have a surround sound system myself, but I hate all these wires hanging off my walls and personally, if you're so interested in Move or motion controlling what-so ever, then why didn't you get a Wii instead?

No one forced you to buy a PS3, No one is forcing you to keep one. If you don't like it, you should sell it. You do know that owning a console should be more about gaming than gimmicks, so stop crying and start playing your games.

One of these would be nice to compliment my current surround sound system but ultimately if i wanted a soundbar there are cheaper higher quality solutions (like building one!) out there.

The Sony HT-CT100 soundbar is a much better value than this thing: [Register or Login to view links]

It can be purchased for around the same price or less, has an actual subwoofer, and 3 HDMI inputs. I have one in my living room and I was surprised at the sound quality. It isn't going to replace my real surround setup in my home theater room, but it is much better than the crappy TV speakers in my Sammy LCD. The "virtual" surround works but only if you sit center to the speaker and about 5-6 feet away. Otherwise it just sounds like a pretty decent 2.1 system.

I already have a 5.1 system and I can tell you guys once you get used to the sound coming from all sides you can never go back to having it come from just the front.

purists will always go for the 6 or 8 speaker setup sound bars dont cut it when it comes to true dolby souround sound 5.1 or 7.1
but this is setup helps cut down on wire runs arond the room so its good for that. if the price is right this might be worth looking at.

I have heard the sound quality on some of these sound bars at a walmart and it does sound really good but there really is no way of hearing the "simulated" because of the open space. I don't know if its $200 good, but it something to look into.

Can's see this really taking off. If you are looking for decent surrond sound (5.1 to 7.2), there are much better ways to get it. This won't be able to compete with proper Yamaha, Rotel, Onkyo, Denon, etc etc etc. If you want decent sound, save and get decent products.

sigh... Who would rather have a puny "sound bar" over decent-sized speakers?

Give me bigger speakers, more speakers, and higher quality amps.

I should go show this to the pro hi-fi shop next door. He'll get a good laugh.
