PS3 Firmware Update v3.55 Arrives, Adds Security Patch

Actually I have old Fat 60GB PS3 with 3.50 fw and a lots of games bought from PS3 store. I bought a second PS3 slim as those were still sold with old enough firmwares for Jailbreaking. I haven't done much with that slim yet, just checked that it works (could of course update to 3.41 already), but I have just waited to see what is this Jailbreak thing going to give us when progress goes further.

I'm not very interested of copied games (I don't have much time to play many games, and when I do have some, I still prefer playing them online).

What I'm hoping most is a decent HD video player (mkv support, better divx & xvid & mpeg support (with srt, sub, sup support), flac audio support, NTFS/ext support etc.).

Emulators, better browser, sopcast type of video streaming, p2p client etc. would also be really nice applications.

As there is not much applications yet for Jailbreaked PS3s, I dont want to Jailbreak the slim yet (because that could make the unit flaggable by sony) and don't want to update to latest firmware either, because I have that Fat PS3 for online gaming. I hope that future would bring us many great applications, but it is natural that the developement will take some time.

I have also JTAGed xbox and I have hoped to see some good video player for it like we had for Xbox1, but haven't heard even a rumor about anything like that after 1,5 years of waiting, so I can't see it coming anytime soon.

Still, it would be nice to get the stuff I have bought to my Fat PS3 also to this second slim PS3, but I guess it is not possible without downloading everything from PS3 store with this slim (that is impossible without updating).

I recall there was a way to transfer everything from 1 PS3 to 2nd, but I guess the second should also have the newest firmware installed if I want to do that ? I think I could download everything again to my fat PS3 after transfer (using my old account), but transferring everything to lower FW unit is probably impossible.

I tend to disagree with you good sir, SONY are currently winning in my opinion. 3.41 consoles are getting rare and the scene isn't moving as fast as everyone had hoped. Don't get me wrong, I'm not a SONY fanboy, I'm just sitting on the fence at the moment. I will chose sides, eventually!

The question is what your goal with the two PS3s is.

Do you want to have Homebrew and backups (H&B) on one or both?

Do you want one for H&B and one for online?

And it they are both slims there is no real good reason to keep it on 3.20 your only keeping it from some of the new features that are up to 3.41 i.e. Move support and 3D (3.50 if you want 3D Movies) , plus the JB of course.

You mean if it's possible to login with an 3.41 console now onto PSN (like with 3.50) via LG5 ? That's a good question. Can someone answer or I've to wait till I come home.

Does it work only with 3.50 or also with older firmwares ? I have 2nd PS3 slim with 3.20, which I bought when 3.50 was already published and I'm still waiting to see what will this Jailbreak bring to us before doing anything to it. (Jailbreaking or Upgrading).

It would be nice to download all the stuff to this new slim I have bought with other PS3 however, without having to update the firmware at the moment.

I guess it is not possible to transfer all the stuff to new slim with older firmware (and if it would, would it be possible to download all the stuff to old PS3 with my existing account, as for a second ps3 ? If I have understood it right, transferring everything from 1 PS3 to another deletes everything from source PS3).
