157w ago - Update: CodeTwink has confirmed that PS3 Firmware update version 3.55 blocked access to lv2 kernel "execute" access, however, if you can patch back in a method to lv1_write_htab_entry, you can re-enable this area.
Today Sony Network Operations Americas VP Eric Lempel has announced that PS3 Firmware update v3.55 has arrived and simply adds a security patch.
Currently it is possible for PS Downgrade / JailBreak users to exit the PS3 Factory/Service Mode and get back to a normal Retail PS3 console using the lv2diag.self file_2.
Finally, although not recommended for PS3 homebrew fans, PS3 Firmware 3.55 is a mandatory update for those seeking to use PSN.
While some have reported the various bypass methods are temporarily working, more promising solutions include PS3 hackers continuing work on decrypting PS3 Firmware 3.50 with version 3.55 next in their sights.

They have to do it to stop you going on psn. They can't really stop you jailbreaking a lower version firmware so its not a big deal. I kinda do agree with stopping jailbreaks from being used online since some hacking could result and it IS a bit iffy to get to play online with a pirated game.
Yeah I think some people in this post are right.. Build a section for the Dev's where only the Devs who have proven themselves to the community and is well respected by the community a VID ("very important developer").. If an upcoming Dev or a None VIP developer wants to share some information that might be useful to the scene it should be sent to one of the VIP Devs or or a private section of the website only reserved for the Admins and Mods where that info can be transferred to one of the main Devs.
The Apple Dev Team is very successful with there work because not every single piece of information/ exploit they acquire is released to the public for everyone to see, when they find something new they keep it on hold until they find a use for it and that has proven to work miracles!! The best way to fight these patches is to organize the scene.. the more organized the scene is and the more tricks we have up our sleeved the harder it will be for Sony to keep up with us.
this is a waste of time, it's just a simple game of cat and mouse, and ps3 hackers will never be able to have permanent psn access. and as soon as temporary psn access is available all the hype begins and dies a week later becasue sony continues to patch away with new security updates. so whats the solution?
buy another ps3 just for psn access, and use your hacked one to play offline, of-course with the exception that you would have to purchase the games you want to play on psn. So all of you people whining and bitching about psn access, do what i just told you.
