PlayStation Network Down, Sony Provides Some PSN Updates

Sponsored Links
17w ago - This weekend Sony's PlayStation Network has been down for many users and Social Media Senior Manager Sid Shuman has shared some PSN updates below via their official blog.

To quote: Like other major networks around the world, the PlayStation Network and Sony Entertainment Network have been impacted by an attempt to overwhelm our network with artificially high traffic.

Although this has impacted your ability to access our network and enjoy our services, no personal information has been accessed.

We will continue to work towards fixing this issue and hope to have our services up and running as soon as possible.

We regret any inconvenience this may have caused.

Finally, in related news according to reports (including [Register or Login to view links], [Register or Login to view links] and via [Register or Login to view links] and [Register or Login to view links]) hackers are responsible for the attacks on Sony's servers and have even went to far as to threaten and divert an American Airlines flight carrying Sony Online Entertainment president John Smedley.

As always, we will continue to update this article as new information is available.

Update: Sony Network Entertainment has now reported (via [Register or Login to view links]) that PSN service is returning, but you may experience slowness or login issues as the network stabilizes.

According to reports, the PlayStation App appears to be functional now but no word on whether PSN is fully restored on the PS4 yet.

Update #2: From Sony Blog Manager Fred Dutton (via [Register or Login to view links]) to quote:

PlayStation Network is Back Online (Update)

The PlayStation Network and Sony Entertainment Network are back online and people can now enjoy the services on their PlayStation devices.

The networks were taken offline due to a distributed denial of service attack. We have seen no evidence of any intrusion to the network and no evidence of any unauthorised access to users' personal information.

In light of today's issue, the networks will not undergo the regularly scheduled maintenance, which was planned for Monday, 25th August. We will provide an update shortly for when the maintenance will be rescheduled.

We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience caused by this issue. Thanks for your patience and support.
