347w ago - Expecting PlayStation Home this spring? Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but it's not happening. Not a chance.

Sony Computer Entertainment today announced that it is extending the duration of the closed BETA for PlayStation Home to summer 2008. As a result, a further number of registrants will soon be invited to test the service and the open BETA has been subsequently pushed back till fall.

Details on applying for the extended closed BETA will be provided at a later date. Home was first slated for September or October 2007 and then pushed back to "Spring 2008." And now, like that, Sony slides it back again.

Press Release: SONY COMPUTER ENTERTAINMENT ANNOUNCES EXPANSION OF CLOSED BETA TESTING

FOR PLAYSTATION®HOME IN SUMMER 2008 Open Beta Service Scheduled For Fall 2008

Tokyo, April 22, 2008 - Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. (SCEI) announced today that it will expand the Closed Beta testing for PLAYSTATION®Home in Summer 2008, inviting a further number of registrants from the PLAYSTATION®3 (PS3®) users. Following completion of the Expanded Closed Beta test, the PLAYSTATION Home Open Beta service will commence in Fall 2008.

"We understand that we are asking PS3 and prospective PS3 users to wait a bit longer, but we have come to the conclusion that we need more time to refine the service to ensure a more focused gaming entertainment experience than what it is today," said Kazuo Hirai, President and Group CEO, Sony Computer Entertainment Inc.

"Our overarching objective is to provide users with new gaming experiences that are available only on PLAYSTATION Home. Spending more time on the development and on the Closed Beta testing reaffirms our commitment to bringing a quality service, maintaining the PlayStation® tradition."

The PLAYSTATION Home Open Beta service that will become available in Fall 2008 will be built around providing new and fun community gaming experiences.

Details of the Closed Beta testing features, registration for the test and the opening of the service will be announced as they become available.

I don't see what the big deal is. Aside from the fact that Sony should never have given a date. Either way the dates given are for OPEN BETA, not the final product.

I see a lot of spoiled rotten behavior on the net about this news.

It'll be out, when it's out.

It's starting to get the point where I just don't care anymore, just like with Spore.

jeez, i wish they would just make it an open beta and fix all the problems as people are playing it. it would probably make it easier on their part too.

With so many delays and what not I hope playstation home, once released, is a revolution and a generation ahead in multimedia gaming social communities, more so than anything anyone else has to offer. With so much work being put into it, how could it not be?

I guess we can all look forward to registering for the "re-opened closed beta" this summer. Good luck everyone!

Postponing, delaying should not be in PS3's vocabulary anymore
