116w ago - As a follow-up to our previous article, today the civil court of justice in the Hague has granted LG a preliminary injunction that will see all new PlayStation 3 consoles imported into Europe confiscated by customs for at least ten days leaving only a few weeks worth of PS3 stock left in the channel.
To quote from MCVUK: "Shipments of PS3 consoles have been seized by European customs officers as an LG injunction against Blu-ray technology seeks to block Sony products from sale, according to a report in The Guardian this afternoon.
Earlier this month, LG had filed a claim with the International Trade Commission calling for a block on PS3 sales, saying the device infringes on its copyrights.
The technology firm claims its rival's Blu-ray disc devices use four patented technologies while, Bravia TVs infringe another four.
At the time, the firm said it wanted to have sales of the PS3 (which plays Blu-rays) and other products banned.
And now, surprisingly, its got its way. The Guardian reports that an initial injunction has now been granted by the civil court of justice in the Hague, leading to all new imports of PS3s to be confiscated."
All I can say is hahahaha owned

This is just great news, for once the courts have made a common sense decision. Courts: "Sony - you've been a bad, bad evil corporation! Bad evil corporation" !
But seriously - this is a good thing, corporations as big as sony should NOT have the right to steal other people's work and pass it off as their own. The courts have actually (so far) done the right thing in this case and smacked sony's bottom.
Don't get me wrong - i don't want to see sony go under, or PS3 production stopped or any thing else of that nature - i'm just glad to see that sometimes justice IS sweet.
Hopefully this will be a nice wake up call to sony and they'll stop their underhanded ways. Maybe they could even (sorry - laughing myself stupid for thinking this...) re-introduce OtherOS + all the other features we want too instead of wasting time/money trying to sue people.
Hey, you never know, this decision might impact other on-going sony cases. Courts can be affected by character witnesses afterall. Don't know if they could be used to cover a corporation (I'm no law expert!) but maybe geo/graf/john doe victims of sony's wrath could benefit from this outcome.
Of course all of this is conjecture, since its only a TEMPORARY ruling - I'm sure sony will buy-off the courts or something. hehehe
Just my opinion - non of which is based in fact (thought i'd best cover my a.. incase they come after me next! lol).
(Gonna go buy me a new, sealed PS3 now so i can make a fortune on the rare games console i have in mint condition in say 50 years - lol)
Ha Ha Ha. This made my day. Nothing but a bunch of intellectual property thieves.
The PS3 isn't going to vanish because of this. Although I wouldn't be surprised if they started to jack up costs and pass it on to their paying customers to offset any legal payout. Don't think Sony will foot the bill. everyone of you who continue to support the company will be.
And who cares if the PS3 dies off? Or Sony isn't around for the next generation? We would all be better off. F Sony.
Why are people with ps3's not caring the cost of a settlement would be past down to us the consumer also if ps3 isnt around then microsoft will be left alone to make awful systems which are unreliable. So people who think this is so great eiher don't own a ps3 or dont care they will be paying for the settlement in the longrun.
