LG Wins Injunction Against Sony, PS3 European Shipments Seized

199w ago - As a follow-up to our previous article, today the civil court of justice in the Hague has granted LG a preliminary injunction that will see all new PlayStation 3 consoles imported into Europe confiscated by customs for at least ten days leaving only a few weeks worth of PS3 stock left in the channel.

To quote from MCVUK: "Shipments of PS3 consoles have been seized by European customs officers as an LG injunction against Blu-ray technology seeks to block Sony products from sale, according to a report in The Guardian this afternoon.

Earlier this month, LG had filed a claim with the International Trade Commission calling for a block on PS3 sales, saying the device infringes on its copyrights.

The technology firm claims its rival's Blu-ray disc devices use four patented technologies while, Bravia TVs infringe another four.

At the time, the firm said it wanted to have sales of the PS3 (which plays Blu-rays) and other products banned.

And now, surprisingly, its got its way. The Guardian reports that an initial injunction has now been granted by the civil court of justice in the Hague, leading to all new imports of PS3s to be confiscated."

All I can say is hahahaha owned

Isn't LG a member of the Blu Ray Disc Association? You would think with everyone sitting in the same room, certain design decisions and concessions would be made. Oh well.

While I don't approve of Sony's practices as of late, I don't want things like this to impact my/our PS3 experience.

Sony has already lost me as a customer of everything for the rest of my life. I hope this happens. I hope it happens into infinity. Their history as a company speaks for itself; they deserve to go belly-up. The only sad part about that happening (it won't) is all the regular Joes who work for Sony who would have to find new jobs.

life is a pain huh $ony, lol.

I had a feeling, Sony has been flexing too much muscle, and that will piss off some judges, can't wait for the end of the Cali trial.

Anyone think Sony may retract with all this court crap, now LG have the injunction, Geo's got all the money plus more, and soon everyone plus their mother, coming out the woodwork looking to sue them. Give it time, and their be in court themselves trying to justify why they have collected so much user data from their products over the last 5 years or so, not just with the ps3, or the Cd's, but with the Sony aibo walked around ya home connected to your home network, probably taking photos with it nose cam and uploading them. Its funny but not that funny.

Good deal! I was wondering about this story when it was announced a few days ago. I'm glad to see something going against Sony!
