Quartermann: God of War 3, Gears of War 2 in 2008
Oh, and Skies of Arcadia fans might want to pay attention.

Another month, another batch of rumors from EGM's Quatermann.
You know, even though Sony hasn't announced God of War 3, it's coming. In fact, it was already sort of announced. Anyway, the folks at SCEA Santa Monica are already hard at work at preparing Kratos' debut on PlayStation 3, which should arrive during the next holiday season, joined by a little something called Gears of War 2, as well. Oooh.
Epic Games and Microsoft haven't confirmed Gears of War 2 either, but the game's stellar sales (not to mention the cliffhanger ending) is confirmation enough.
A little out of left field, however, is news of Sega reviving Skies of Arcadia. The sky pirate RPG was criminally overlooked, despite releases on both Dreamcast and GameCube, but apparently Sega been quietly preparing a sequel to the swashbuckling adventure.
The latest issue of EGM, featuring Ninja Gaiden 2 on the cover, arrives in subscriber hands this week.

omg i loved skies of arcadia it was incredible and my favorite rpg game but i hope the second is gonna be longer,you can actually see the enemys and it has to BE FOR THE WIIs ince the wii is the best(to me that is)and it doesnt seem right for the ps3 the 360 i dont mind but it has to be for the wii or i will never like sega again the game was incredible
This series is by far the most addictive and entertaining I have ever played. The story along with gameplay are great. There is no weak points to this series and im holding my breath till the third and final chapter comes along. I believe that this should exclusivley be for the playstation and I only hope that more video game developers take idea's from Santa Monica.
remake for psp, it seems to be the man for remakes.
I predict what the GOW sequal will outsell the other GOW sequal...haha see what I did there....ha....uh...
I really hope Skies Of Arcadia comes out for 360 and PS3 and it would be really nice to see it on another Sega console too.
With lots of strong Sega titles, the departure of Scott Steinberg(meaning Sega OF America could hire a new VP marketer that could bring back the killer app adversting that it had back then) and more arcade titles built for Lindbergh(i.e Street Fighter IV) plus, 2008 Summer Olympics and speculation of another SEGA console coming in the next gen SEGA could finally be headed back in the right direction.

these are by far the best games ever created,I used to play god of war all the time but now its gears all the way online. cant wait....
I knew the next GoWs were coming, but this Skies of Arcadia news comes as a pleasant surprise.
that game was ultra badass! I wonder what console will get it? I'm thinking 360 or Wii. I'd love to see this on the 360 though. I don't see how the Wii-mote could really enhance this type of RPG so I'll just go with the pretty graphics instead!
I hope you're right - Skies of Arcadia deserves a sequel. But GoW3 in '08? Yea right - you can't just whip up a PS3 game out of thin air. Sony Santa Monica just can't have gotten a PS3 engine fully together enough to produce GoW3, at least not a good one. Gears of War 2 seems more realistic though, but I wonder how much the PC port interfered with the sequel...
Also, I wonder whose developing Skies 2? If recent Sega moves have been anything to go by, it might even be an American developer behind it...
I've been waiting for a new Skies of Arcadia for nearly eight years now... It's hands-down my favorite RPG of all time. Hell, I spent several months just playing around with the Skies DEMO DISC. Please, Sega, let this be true!!!
P.S. GoW and Gears are overrated. Truth.
...THE PUBLISHING rights to GoW 1, NOT the GoW IP. The GoW Franchise IS bound to appear on the ps3 one way or another It's Epic property after all.
Wow, truly a WONDERFUL idea to have all of us partake into a great Dreamcast game, Skies of Arcadia. Now if only they can remake Final Fantasy VII...hmmmmm?
Sony has already contracted Epic to make a "Gears like" game for its system. Thats why it says MICROSOFT GAME STUDIOS when you load your game. MS owns the rights to the game. I might actually buy a PS3 for Skies!
With its already outstanding lineup (Killzone 2, MGS4 (And Online), GTA IV, Little Big Planet, Socom Confrontation & Socom 4, Gran Turismo 5, Final Fantasy XIII/XIII Versus, and now God of War 3? Also there's also a good chance Gears will be multiplatform. And I thought Sony's fall lineup was good...
During interviews, the developers of God of War series said even if they started developing God of War 3 right then for PS3, the soonest it would be ready is sometime in 2009. If Sony says it will be 2008 it's just nonsense, like when they said PS3 would launch worldwide in spring of 2006.
And as if my prayers were answered, it shall be done. Just don't make the random encounters so high. Sure it was better on the GC but it couldn't hurt...
Awesome! The GCN was my first opportunity to check out Skies and it did not disappoint. But yeah, that guy is right, there was a very high encounter rate...not enough to deter me though. A sequel sounds fantastic, though. I still sometimes have dreams about Pirate's Wrath and Gunslinger.
SEGA has opened the floodgates with NiGHT's and Samba de Amigo, why not this?
The encounter rate wasn't as bad on GCN. I actually bothered to complete it on there, while I really just couldn't bring myself to on the DC. Other things are improved as well, such as the main character models... this becomes even more obvious when you meet an NPC lol.
I'd love to see this, I just would rather it was on 360/PS3 instead of Wii, myself.
Yes it needs to happen! Oh God it needs to happen! I know it's a given that both God of War and Gears Of War are coming out with sequels. In the great words of Borat "I very excite!"
Oh please let this be true. I loved skies! It had a unique battle system, a fun story, and great (but not overwhelming) side quests.
One of the best and definitely deserves another entry in the series.
It was a solid RPG that was marred by a ridiculously high encounter rate, I never finished it as a result.
It's nice to see Sega bringing back so many franchises but I really wish they'd make a proper Phantasy Star sequel instead of making these awful online iterations over and over. PSO was cool, after that it was all downhill.
Was one of the greatest RPGs for the GCN... not to mention one of the few!

i doubt god of war is coming in 08, because they'd have to develop a whole new engine from god of war 2...
gears of war 2 would be on the same ut3 engine, christmas 2008 sounds right.

The Q-Man section is the one of the only things I usually have not read or heard about by the time I get my EGM. Now you guys spoil it every month before I get my issue.
I wonder if Gears 2 will be on the PS3.I would get it for the 360 but anyone with a PS3 only sure missed out on a great game.

The Gears of War sequel is very likely. It will be two years since the original, not 1. Making the sequel to gears will be alot easier because they already have the engine and alot of the assets in place. God of War 3 is also a no brainer. However, I think they will announce God of War 3 for next holiday and then it will get pushed back till 2009. Every Ps3 game gets pushed back.

All the news...err..I mean rumors sound good. I am very much looking forward to GoW3 ! Skies of Arcadia action would be a nice bonus, if its true.
why do people love it so much? I bought it for gamecube and I got all the way to the area to the far east, you know the Asian/Chinese place. The story and combat were all blah to me, the weapons all looked the same and in my opinion dark cloud had better humor in it. I must be missing something because I felt like it was a good game despite it's flaws but people consider it a legend, that baffles me.
you really think with the gears team being busy on the PC release of the first game that they will all of a sudden come out with a full blown sequel in less than a year? try 2009 or perhaps 2010, gears isn't a sports game with a roster update, and next gen quality games are taking way longer to develop for. Sorry to squash your tiny grapes, but Gears 2 is a long way off, and the gears movie is probably scrapped (and who cares, videogame movies blow chunks anyway lol)

I'd love to see Gears O' War next holiday, but I have my doubts. Spring 09 is more likely. Meanwhile, ps3 owners continue to wait for a good game or two. Jeez Sony, throw the the people a friggin bone or two.

Hell yeah, although we knew they were both coming. Lets give the devs time to make these games amazing. I'm especially excited foe God of War III, I want to see that in full 1080p at 60 FPS.
Gears of War and God of War both getting sequels? How on Earth could you possibly make that prediction? Those seem so, well, unbelievable. Next you'll tell me that Nintendo plans on releasing a new Mario Kart and Activision will make a Guitar Hero IV. /sarcasm
I hope Skies of Arcadia comes out on the PS3 and 360. I would love to see how great the graphics would look for that game. As for both GOWs you knew there would be another. So if both come out next year I will have some great games to play.
I loved Skies a truck load when I owned my wee lil Dreamcast. A sequel of the same quality as the original (or better!) would set my gaming veins ablaze!
There has to be atleast a 2 year gap. Gears of War 2 has a more likely chance then GoW 3. I say 99% GoW 3 doesn't come out 08'. But GoW 2 probably a 50/50 chance.
I hope Gears of War 2 is 2008 if we are lucky. I doubt it will manage to pop out in 08 but It will for sure be 09 or before. They might need a little more time.

Even if their was a god of war 3 do you really think that it would be available in 08? Final fantasy was been supposed to be out a year ago making, and by that alone the likely hood of gow3 happening next year not likely given the years to make a ps3 game to begin with.
Im very sure god of war 3 is reason enough to buy a ps3! Cant wait!

a lot of big games coming out in 08. and now the best xbox has to offer is gears, well so far at least. same thing with the wii (SSBB! cant wait).
I'm not really all that excited about a God of War 3, which is surprising to me since the first two were great. What I'm looking forward to is Gears of War 2, hopefully they'll at least add the PC exclusive level to the original by then. I'm really looking forward to a sequel to The Skies of Arcadia. That was a good RPG that was original and fun to play.

I really dont see either one of these games being released in 2008, maybe, Maybe Gears of War 2. But I wont be surprised one bit if there's a delay. Skies if Arcadia 2 seems cool. I was really interested in the first one for Gamecube but never got around to buying it. Maybe I'll pick up the sequel.
i can see maby gears of war 2 coming out in 08 but i think for god of war 3 its a little to soon. i mean there was a 2 year gap between god of war and god of war 2. i dont know i guess yay the sooner the better, but im expecting great quality from god of war 3 which on would think would take more than a little over a year to make.

On all of those, but I'm most interested in God of War 3 and Skis of Arcadia.
2008 is shaping up to be one ill ass year of gaming. MGS4, KZ2, SSB, Tekken 6, Soul Calibur 4 and GTA4 in the first half alone. And I'm forgetting bangas. Hopefully Gears 2 and G0W3 will drop in the 08, but if I was betting man I'd put my monies on 2009.
