What we heard: Ever since it was first announced, Mercenaries 2: World in Flames has been the subject of many gamers' interest. The attention increased after Electronic Arts agreed to publish the title, which sees a trio of guns-for-hire renting themselves out during a Venezuelan civil war. Anticipation for the game skyrocketed in May, when developers showed off what looked like a near-final build of the game.

Today, though, comes word that Mercenaries 2 might be missing its previously announced holiday 2007 release date. Citing unnamed sources, C&VG is claiming that the PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC shooter has been pushed back to 2008. While the move pushes the Pandemic title's free-roaming, over-the-top destruction further down the space-time continuum, it will free up funds for cash-strapped gamers to buy other titles. It also isn't unprecedented, since other AAA titles such as Splinter Cell: Conviction and the big kahuna itself, Grand Theft Auto IV, have been pushed back to next year.

The official story: "We've made no announcements at this time regarding a final release date for Mercenaries 2: World in Flames."--A recalcitrant Pandemic rep.

Bogus or not bogus?: Leaning not bogus. As promising as Mercenaries 2 looks, it's not as high profile as many other titles fighting for consumers' limited dollars this year. Factor that a holiday release would pit it against another EA-published title, Crysis (due November 16), and a delay seems even more likely.

Good to hear that there are some companies out there willing to give our wallets a little relief in the Christmas season. I absolutely loved the first Mercenaries and cannot wait to play the second installment. Good call on their part in my opinion.

It may very well be delayed but what does this have to do with Crysis? Mercenaries 2 will make its money on consoles while Crysis is a PC title...

I never really got into the first Mercenaries game for the X-Box. Just not my cup of tea I guess. But I may end up having to check out the new game come next year.

I cry "not bogus": GameStop's current date is 04/01/08, as it has been for the better part of last month, as far as I've been noticing (which means it's probably been that way for longer). Usually a date for the 1st means they're aiming for that month or season... which probably means a Spring 2008 release.

Not that I'm happy, mind you.

I think every game should be delayed until 2008 except Halo 3. Seriously, what other game is going to compete for your gaming time? Bioshock's already here and delaying GTAIV was just fine by me

Looks like PS3 development woes have claimed another victim (Mercs 2 is in good company though: Stranglehold, Halflife Orange Box, GTAIV)

As Ultimate RAGEX said: i'd rather have a game that has had more work put into it than a rushed one so this doesn't annoy me too much.
That give us some wallet break in holidays

I really do hope it's pushed back. If they're making the game better, then that's great. I have too much to play this year anyway, like Halo 3, BioShock, CoD4, Super Mario Galaxy, SSB. Brawl, Mass Effect, Rock Band, Assassin's Creed, Blacksite: Area 51, and Crysis. I don't want a drought in 2008.

nxname "Im from Venezuela, i canīt wait for play this game!!!.

hug... to add, in Venezuela no exist the sea oil plataformer, the Petroleum is extract of ground in other minor cases rivers or lagons"

Hey, what are you talking about? I too am from Venezuela and of course we have oil extraction PLATFORMS. I can even see them from my house!!!!!!!
Either you are not from Venezuela or you have literally been living under a rock, A PRETTY BIG ONE.
P.S. Seriously, dude, get a dictionary, you are embarassing.

Now that that's out of my system I can comment on the game. I guess I am also disappointed because of the alleged delay. I love the first one and I am going to get the sequel no matter where it's set, so the fact that it's going to take place in my country gives me a double incentive. I don't think think there's ever been a game that took place in Venezuela.

Anyone who's been paying attention to the gaming industry this year should've seen this one coming. Let's just hope the delay is soley due to them needing more time to finish the game itself, as opposed to feeling the heat from those who never wanted the game to come out in the first place. And we all know who "THEY" are..

Delay, delay, delay!!! That's what I'm always hearing... and now THIS!?! I was hoping to cause pools of blood in my wake with GTA IV, but NNNNOOOO that had to be delayed which I was hoping for Mercenaries. And now it's delayed which delays my cause for mass explosions everywhere I go..... that SUCKS!

with so many A titles delayed to next year the argument that this game will "sell better" if delayed doesnt make sense. it is delayed because the need more time to finish it.

While I'm disappointed that I won't be able to get my grubby paws on this game this year, I'm all for anything that makes the end product better. Mercenaries 2 was on my must-have list for the fall-along with Halo 3 and Assassin's Creed (though I'm getting concerned that the latter will not be as good as I had hoped), so now I must contemplate its replacement on said list...

Good that they aren't rushing it. I would hate for them to screw up on this one. Also, with Holiday 07 being as packed with AAA titles as it is, this saves me $60 to put towards one of those.
