As I understand it, if you have purchased a system between now and Nov. 22, 2005, you should be in the clear if you:
a. never opened it
b. if you opened it, never once connected to Xbox Live.
c. if you have opened it, you have not played any new games in the past two months (i.e. Crackdown and Battlestations: Midway)
I just opened the last of the initial three 360's that I bought. It was manufactured in September of 2006 on the 6th day and it has the 1888 kernel (I think, I honestly can't remember the exact kernel, suffice it to say that it much, much lower than what is needed to attempt this).
My query is this, how would one obtain said kernel update?
Could we find this on a game made between the aforementioned dates?
Could we use the HD-DVD setup disc?
Or perhaps there is some website that hosts an archive of the updates for all of us who don't have the, "internet?"
I hope that I'm not out of line for asking these questions. They are, after all, valid questions seeing as how some of the later updates bricked a few 360s and I wouldn't want to take that chance with my brand new, still unopened, pristine, Xbox 360.
And to all of those who say that this hack is pointless, does anyone remember the days of the first PSP hacks, those of us with unlucky enough to get the 1.5 firmware would just have been out-of-luck if it weren't for the holes that were found from inside of the 1.00 firmware. I kind of think of it like a room with holes in the walls at night. From outside you can't really see any difference, but from the inside all you see is the damn holes in the walls that let all of the light from the moon in. I might just be on a rant here, but some people can't see the forest for the trees lately. Take a step back, remember who you are, and just let it be. Jesus am I long winded or what?!
