Sales Ad Reveals XBox 360 Elite Drops to $299 on September 1st

As previously reported, today the sales ads for the first week of September at Walmart, Gamestop and Meijer show the Xbox 360 Elite priced at $299 and replacing the current Pro SKU which Microsoft is phasing out.

http://www.engadget.com/2009/08/21/look-out-slim-xbox-360-elite-showing-299-in-new-walmart-ad/ has managed to get a leaked photo of the Walmart ad as you can see below.

To quote: "In a move obviously designed to offset Sony's recent PS3 redesign and price drop, the $299 price point will take effect on the same day as the new PS3 launches - September 1st. The Arcade SKU will remain at $199."

Expect an official Microsoft announcement soon...

What a coincidence the Xbox 360 price is cut after the PS3 slim is announced, very corporate strategy. The PS3 slim has an advantage now the price of each console is similar, with added bluray, wifi, free online etc. Glad im posting again, theres so much going off on the PS3 front, i thought i'd stay stuck on my 100th post forever lol.

sure looks like Microsoft are wetting their pets for fear right now. when one looks at a Xbox360 Elite and a PS3 marked at $299, it's no competition. they may have lowered the price on the Xbox, but that won't stop people from buying a PS3. with a ps3, people are getting so much more. free networking, an excellent media system with bluray, better exclusives, and more.

I don't want to be a fanboy and I don't consider myself one, but i am tired of Microsoft trying to sham their way out of trouble.

hmm Xbox 360 elite for 299 (not including xbox live + chance of RRoD)
OR
a ps3 slim (free psn, and no crashes) for 299

hmmm wow that's a really hard choice.

I already own a PS3 and am a very happy customer. I am glad that the new price is really getting the attention the console deserves. If Sony markets the slim right it could surely make them the #2 console or at the very least really close the gap with the 360.

Lowering the price of the Elite is hardly a price cut, customers will only pay less for a bigger hard drive and I wouldn't buy an Arcade because for it's price it just doesn't make a lot of sense because of all the extras I have to buy eventually.

Unless the Elite pack adds free gaming and wireless I bet a lot of gamers waiting for the "right price" will buy the PS3 slim and even some 360 owners will pick one up.

LOL... This is a complete no-brainer!!

Microsoft must have wet its little panties when the PS3 Slim and price was announced at Gamescom. And i wouldn't blame MS, as they should be VERY afraid, over the upcoming unavoidable and intense bashing it's going to suffer as from September 1st... until forever!

You just can't expect to possibly ever be able to beat a bluray drive with an ordinary DVD drive. LOL. And the best thing is, it's for the same price, so unless you're completely retarded, you must buy a PS3. The reign of the xbox360 (in sales numbers and popularity) is already over. You don't need to be a market analyst to see which of the PS3 or Xbox360, is going to lead in terms of sales and popularity.

BTW, i own both a PS3 and XBOX360, and i regret it everyday why i bought the XBOX360. The noise, the cheap construction and the lack of great exclusive games... it ALL goes in favor of Sony's console. You can't ever really realise the extent of the difference between these two machines, until you own one. My BIGGEST mistake to buy an xbox360! I would rather buy the PS3 Slim (that would make 2 PS3s, including the fat version that i have) and you know what... maybe i will. I will sell that xbox360 garbage can and buy me a nice new PS3 slim. One in my room, one in the living room. Ahh.. life is good again!

I honestly dont see the big deal about the slim, I really feel the better gaming is on the xbox, yeah there are a few titles on the ps3 that stand out, metal gear being one of them, I have not really touched my ps3 in close to a year now, but game every day on the 360 why you ask, because the online functions are night and day different, and with netflix who really cares about the bluray function.

I really think the 360 still is the better deal yeah I have had to send it back to Ms once due to the RROD but I also got the Yellow light on the ps3 and that had to go back to them as well, Live is less then $5 a month, and very well worth it, yeah online is free on ps3 but look how hacked call of duty is on there, no fun,.
