DMS4 EZI Lite help

My DMS4 EZI Lite came today, installing it was a breeze. All the lights on the LED's are green and when I held square I got the little message so I know it was installed properly and works, I then installed ToxicBIOS v1.2 very easily.

I backed up a couple of games that I own on a DVD-R disk using Alcohol 120% and none of them work. I tried numerous different methods in Alcohol 120%, first I used the Image Making Wizard to create an image, I created the image and then used the Image Burning Wizard to burn that image file onto a DVD-R at the slowest possible writing speed.

When it finished, I put the disk into my PS2 and got the RSOD.

So I then tried a different method using another DVD-R disk, this time instead of creating the image and then burning the image, I used the Copy Wizard in Alcohol 120% using the slowest writing speed and all that good stuff. Needless to say, it didn't work and I got the same result as I did before and I got that damn RSOD.

Someone suggested that I loosen all the screws and take them out so there is no pressure on the modchip and I did that but it didn't help the problem at all and i'm still getting the RSOD.

I've also tried DVD Decryptor and got the same result. I've tried everything, i've followed every guide and tutorial EXACTLY step by step and nothing works. When I put the original game in, it works perfectly, I am totally out of ideas, how can I get my backups to actually work without getting the RSOD? I heard about "patching" an image file or something but I have no idea how to do that, mabye that is my problem?

Incase you need to know, my PS2 is a V9.

Please help me.

PS. RSOD is the "red screen of death" that comes up and tells you to insert a PS2 format disk or whatever.

Well, you haven't stated what brand of media you are using. Also Bios v1.3 is out, upgrade to that as well. Seems like your ground connection, and Bios/DSP clips are installed correctly.

I have the EZI Pro with ToxicOS v0.3 in my NTSC v9, and have not had any problems with game backups. I only burn with DVD Decrypter @ 4x onto Ridata G04 and Taiyo Yuden DVD-R's.

Have you tried using a different brand of media? Philips DVD±Rs aren't exactly known for their compatibility. Try some Verbatim, Ritek, Prodisc, and/or Taiyo Yuden discs and see what happens.

Sorta off topic but I'm thinking about getting one of these EZI chips (either one doesn't matter since it's only a $10 difference) and I read somewhere in the forums that mod chips add voltage to the laser and hence shortens it's (the laser's) life? While swapping does not?

So if I want my PS2 to last as long as possible, swapping would be the better choice? Or has the laser/voltage issue been addressed with these latest chips?

Most laser burn-out problems are related to your version of PS2 and the quality of the media you use.

Laser burn-out is common on modded v9 and v10 consoles (common enough to be called "v9 syndrome") and can be prevented by adding a romeo mod. Laser burn-out is also common on modded v12 PSTwo consoles (mostly ones with a date code prior to "5A") and can be prevented be adding the SlimlineFIX v4.

Swapping places additional stress on the laser, as well. This comes from the fact that it is significantly more difficult to read data from DVD±R discs than from manufactured DVD-ROM discs. This is why it is important to use good quality media that has high data compatibility and reliability.

Well I have a v10 PS2 (I think, see below) and understood everything you said, JCWohlschlag, until you mentioned "romeo mod".
