Dead Head Fred: Head Cases Pt. 5

August 17, 2007 - Being a detective in a corrupt town is extremely tough. The amount of crime that plagues the streets is sky high, which constantly keeps you busy with cases. Allies are few and far between, making it extraordinarily tough to find people to trust. Your enemies seem to be multiplying also, with everyone from two bit thugs to mob bosses gunning for you all the time. Odds like these are enough to make you lose your head, or make someone lose it for you.

This situation almost happened to Fred Neuman, the main character of Dead Head Fred. Left for dead one night without his memory, friends or his head, Fred finds himself stranded in the town of Hope Falls with a jar that holds his brain and eyes sitting atop his body. Looking for revenge against his enemies, Fred uses his fists and his heads to get past the twisted denizens of the town, which include mutants, zombies and the occasional "normal" human being. That's right, Fred has the ability to take off and swap his jar for a number of specially enhanced heads that grant him new powers.

Over the next few weeks, we'll introduce the various heads that you'll be able to use in the game and their powers, which you'll need to become familiar with if you want to be successful in this twisted noir action game. Try to keep a good head on your shoulders by reading on.

The Shrunken Head

The Shrunken Head is not selectable in the Head Selector, but it will prompt when you need it most! A Head Hint / (?) will display when Fred has the ability to use it to enter a shrunken area. There are many places this head can explore that the others can't.

Shrunken Head Strategy

With the Shrunken Head, Fred can perform a roll under low hanging obstacles. He can also perform an uppercut jump if the X button is pressed while rolling. Fred can access rat holes, hallowed logs, and other tiny spaces he normally couldn't fit into.

The roll jump is higher than the normal jump. If there is a ledge you just can't seem to reach, try to roll jump up there.

The Sawmill in Creepy Hollow and the Abandoned Warehouse in Downtown have areas in which the dangers are set very close together. When you find yourself in a tight spot, perform a roll jump to dive past the danger zone.

We'll have more on Dead Head Fred soon. For now, check out the latest screens of the game.
