UMDGen 3.0+ Support Thread

It shouldn't be much longer... UMDGen v3.0 is truly a "monster" upgrade HEHE... not only will it have the updates/features already mentioned HERE, but also several more new features have now been added including:

• Accelerator (shortcut) Keys

• Disable/Enable MPath/OptionalPathTables - This is an advanced feature that has only been added for users that complain that the first file location is too high because it is in a lower position in a VCDROMx generated ISO (as they don't use OptionalPathTables) - but UMD compliant iSOs do, but since VCDROMx images work it's now included as an option.

• Hide Files and Folders - Right-Clicking and selecting Hide will completely hide the selected files/folders from the ISO header.

• Dupe checking File/Folder names. Previous versions would allow files/folders with identical names to be added to the same folder. If you drop a file into UMDGen window which has duplicate name a messagebox will appear asking if you want to replace the original file.

• PPF Patching is now built-in (for individual files as well as complete iSO patches)

• Added a 'Debug Console' to advanced options - this will help with any problems users may have. It will log various actions and it will hopefully aid us in finding the root cause.

• Added the ability to simply drop an iSO into the window to open it. This will only work if UMDGen is in Reset Mode (New compilation)... otherwise the iSO is added as a file to the compilation.

• DAX Compression is being worked on (hopefully) to be included in 3.0 as this seems to be a popular feature request.


With the exception of the last one, the rest are already integrated into 3.0. I am not sure on a release date yet, but we are testing BETA builds regularly to find any major bugs in them... hopefully within the next couple weeks a FINAL build will be ready for release! =]

I've been trying UMDGen 3.00 and I have some bugs to report :
- firmware version not always working : for example, it shows 2.6 for DBZ US instead of 2.5, and 2.0 for Death Jr PAL instead of 2.6.

- drag and drop function : when dragging a directory in order to insert it in an iso, the subfiles and directories are placed at the same level as the directory inserted. I explain : I want to place a folder named A at the root of the UMD. In this folder are an other directory named B, and a file named C.ext
A\
A\B\
A\C.ext
If I drag and drop the A directory into UMDGen, I will get that configuration :
A\
B\
C.ext
On the other hand, that works fine when loading from "right clic/Add/Existing folder".

Firmware version detection is read directly from the PARAM.SFO file within the game, UMDGen simply displays this information. It doesn't try to determine whether it's correct or not.

Drag and drop function - this bug has already been fixed (download latest updated version 3.00.1)

Padding is the number of 'blank' space to insert between each file in the generated ISO. Setting to None will save the most space but users have the option of increasing the padding values if they wanted to.

Disable Optional Path function - UMD Standard requires both L optional and M optional Path Tables (Part of the ISO Header) but, as in the case of vcdromx, some ISO Generators don't use them. This option was only added for anyone wanting to use the same LBA positions from a previously created vcdromx image - I would suggest, unless necessary, to leave this setting to default.

OK- Thanks for the feedback... we will investigate that. If anyone has any other bugs to report feel free to do so, this way if an update is released it can fix several things versus one-by-one spanning 5 more tiny fix updates.

There's a problem with the latest version, v3.01. When I drag a file to a directory it's moved up and placed in the parent directory. For example, if a.foo is dragged and dropped to \PSPGAME\USRDIR\data the file gets stored in \PSPGAME\USRDIR.

Thanks for the bug report biphase.
We have fixed this issue but we will leave any further release for a while to see if any more bugs arise (otherwise we could be releasing 1 or 2 bugfixes per day :eek2) :grin:

It's not all bad though - if you 'right click' in the desired folder and select 'Add Existing File' from the menu you can add the file and it will be placed in the correct folder ;-)
