Replacing movies and sound with blanks...

I'm sure this has been addressed before, it seems very simple, but I couldn't find any information on it.

I took the time to replace 26 videos and 110 (!!!) audio files on my copy of Tales of Eternia, deleting the old files and adding new, blank ones with the same exact names in their place. (Yes I checked all the names.)

The game starts, and shows me some screen saying Namco etc... but when it gets to the opening movie, it freezes.

Is there something I'm missing here? Any ideas would be appriciated.

ALSO: I tried this with a copy of Worms: Open Warfare with the same result, a freeze at the first movie. Both ISOs worked perfectly beforehand.

It could be a problem with the files you used to replace the original ones. Have you tried relinking instead? - it would be quicker to relink 110 audio files instead of replacing and renaming them individually!

OK, I've been desperately trying to learn how to remove the videos and sound from ISOs to decrease the size.

I've read all the tutorials, searched the forums and read all the previous posts I could find, and I tried everything they recommended, to no avail. (Yes, my renaming is flawless.)

Here's what I've tried:

#1. Deleting the videos and replacing them with blanks carrying the same name (Didn't work, I think due to the Lba not matching up, which I'm not even sure what Lba is.)

#2. Leaving the videos there, and adding the blanks, then relinking *from* each original *to* each blank, then deleting the originals (Didn't work, I think again due to the Lba, as it changed when I deleted the originals)

#3. Extracted the entire ISO, deleted the originals, added in the blanks, recompiled the ISO, and matched it to the FileList.txt I extracted from the original... No dice. I still can't even get to the opening menu, it freezes at the first video.

For reference, I'm working with Worms: Open Warfare at the moment, since the videos take up 2/3 of the ISO.

Am I not relinking correctly? Should I be editing the FileList.txt I imported from the original ISO?

Please help me guys, I've been working with this for several days and I'm getting really frustrated... the idea behind UMDGen is a good one, but it seems very difficult to properly execute >=[

when relinking there is no need to delete any files. UMDGen will automatically reduce the iso size correctly.

Here are the basic steps on relinking:

1. Open your untouched ISO in UMDGen.
2. Open UMDGen to the correct folder that contains the movie files.
3. Right-click a movie that you want to KEEP and relink all others too (a short movie is best)
4. Select from the dropdown Menu 'File Relinker -> Use Selected File As Source'
5. Select all the movie files you wish to be relinked.
6. Right-click and select "File Relinker -> Relink To Source'

Now all selected files will be relinked to the source file (look at the LBA positions - they are now all the same). You will also notice ISO size has been reduced.

thanks a lot, i got this working on my copy of Worms, but now I'm stuck with another issue: Now I get to see the Team 17 logo four times in a row when I start the ISO.

I'd like to make the ISOs more formal, for example with RPGs I wouldn't want to just repeat the same video over and over again... I'd prefer to have emptiness in it's space.

How would I relink to a new, blank movie file?

i'm also running into problems where say... the whole soundtrack appears to be kept in a single file... I've got nothing to relink it to. I've tryed just adding a blank and keeping the original and relinking, but it seems the game still errors.

any help would be nice, it seems i've almost tamed this beast heh.

If you have a blank pmf file, rename it so the name matches one of the movie files in the iso...then drop the renamed blank pmf into UMDGen and select yes when asked if you want to replace the original. You can then relink all the other movies to the file you just dropped in.

A note on using blank pmf files: On the majority of games the blank pmf file will work ok, but there are some games that will crash\freeze when it tries to play it.

thanks for the help... apparently the games I'm trying to put blanks in are the type that don't like blanks =X
