January 23, 2007 - SEGA today announced that it is currently developing a new puzzle game, entitled Crush, for PlayStation Portable. Developed by UK development team, Kuju Brighton, the game is scheduled for release this summer.
Crush tells the tale of Dan, a man haunted by his past and plagued with chronic insomnia, who is too tired to turn his life around. In pursuit of a cure, Dan turns to hypnosis as a means of sorting out the wreckage of his past.
Crush is set within a complex, 3D world. Players will need to "crush" the environments in order to reduce them to a simpler 2D platformer layout. Once the world has been flattened, players must move through the 2D space to solve challenges, access new areas, and unlock secret items. At this point, players can then "uncrush" the world 2D environment, restoring the 3D world.
"Crush introduces a fascinating new gameplay perspective on the PSP that encourages players to stretch their imagination in a whole new way," said Scott A. Steinberg of SEGA® of America. "The spatial concept of the crushing mechanic is something truly unique that encourages users to think back and forth between 3D and 2D objects and environments to engage different parts of their brain, and see beyond what is literally in front them."
Look for Crush to spread its insomnia sometime in Summer 2007.
