January 24, 2007 - After [Register or Login to view links] yesterday afternoon, Chicago-based Midway Games has revealed its second handheld title in as many days with the confirmation of Hot Brain for the PSP. Developed by Midway's San Diego studio, Hot Brain brings the emerging "mind-training" genre made popular by Brain Age to Sony's portable system and includes five different timed categories (logic, memory, math, language, and concentration) as well as the vocal talents of comedic actor, Fred Willard (Anchorman).
"With both Touchmaster DS for Nintendo DS and Hot Brain for PSP, we're able to tap into our experience with the casual market to create games that work perfectly with the unique controls and features of each portable system," said Steve Allison, chief marketing officer, Midway. "Both titles will be able to provide quick three-minute gameplay experiences or extended play-session with puzzles, card games, brain teasers, trivia and more."
Guided by Willard's personable host, Hot Brain players are tasked with getting the highest "brain temperature" possible (which includes rankings like "on fire" and "critical mass"). Gameplay is based almost entirely on simple icon selections and is supported by a number of single and multiplayer game modes for up to four players total (via ad hoc). Practice Mode (self-explanatory), Test Mode (the official single-player challenge), Brain Race (timed competitive multiplayer), and Think Tank (cooperative multiplayer) are the features that Midway has confirmed so far.
Expect to see it sometime this summer.
