Is the game more stable on other versions of pops and if so which is best for this game. Also I never use compression. And again I am using 3.30OEA/3.30 ;-) |

ok after trying several OE firmwares, the most compatible yet recent version for FFVII is 3.10 OE-A. All newer OE firmwares have the FFVII lockups. So if you wanna play FF7 glitch free, 3.10 OE is the way to go.

I'm working on an FF7 crash guide and will post it here when I finish disc 1. I have found out some very interesting things about it but for now it seems that much of the post midger to temple of the ancients areas are safe (I'll list all exceptions there are 4-5 of them mostly small one-timers) and several common threads about the techs that crash the game. I've put together a rough profile of FF7 crashs and the causes. Here it is. 1) Like stated the crash happens on 3.30oea and later and results in extreme graphical corruption and sometimes, slow down. It is possible to finish a fight but if you do save at your own risk. I have done it with no problem 1 time to prove the theory but if you corrupt your 200 hour save and have no backup you are a fool for taking chances. I have finished battles with the crash and a typical result is unreadable menu text and corrupt location pointers a soft reset (L1,L2,R1,R2,Select,Start) doesn't fix it so use a reset from home button menu. 2) Countdown spells will always crash the game These are techs such as Death Sentence and Petrif-Eye. 3) Soldiers in Shinra Building and the ship also can crash the game. It stands to reason that in Junon and any other place that they appear they will crash it. 4) Explosion and very slow abliltys seem to have a higher crash frequency. Here are some known crash triggers: AB Cannon (Boss Warning-Heli Gunner) Curses Death Sentence Frog Song Petrif-Eye (Boss Warning-Demons Gate) Petrified Frog Refuse Silence Stone Stare There are also unnamed specials that cause crashes, soldiers seem to have these a lot, including the 2 that attack at the beginning of the Yuffie side quest near wutai. These areas are safe: Every area from the Motorcycle chase to Junon Costa del Sol area inluding Mt. Corel Gold Saucer area Gongaga Reactor and surrounding non-world map area Nibelheim and Rocket Town areas including Mt. Nibel Bone Vilage area These areas are hazards: Shinra Building floor 67+ Cargo Ship Gongaga Area Cave of the Gi Shinra Mansion Area around Temple of the Ancients(See note below) Temple of the Ancients Gold Saucer second manditory trip (See note below) Wutai and surrounding area (only during Yuffie Detour) Corral Valley I Have also tested Limit breaks up to these numbers. Cloud 3/2 Tifa 3/2 Aeris 4/1 Cait Sith 1/1 (I have no plans to test every 2/1 combo) Barret 3/2 Cid 1/1 Red 13 4/1 Vincent 0 Yuffie 1/1 In the second round Dio's Entertainment battle will often pit you against 2 Gagighandis and they will use Stone Stare before you even get a chance to choose your attack. On other matters is pops problematic in general on these versions? Star Ocean TSS froze on the last battle on disc 1, less than five minutes playtime since a save file transfer from a PS2.

3.30oea with 3.11 plugin works glitch free and is probably one of the best. About the disk change, you just have to set the game id of all three discs to a common number such as SCUS 94163 and then at the end of disc save screen save normaly. Then load the game using the next disc. The 3 discs can even be on your memory stick simultaneously.
