3GP sync problem - PS3 NEWS

I'm having a problem with 3GP. I try to convert some of my DVD's and when I put them on my PSP, the video is faster then the audio. I use the Med. setting and the Abstract Emotion PSP 320x240 conig setting. I have tried this 3 times. The quality is much better then PSP video 9, but these sync problems are driving me crazy. Anyone have any ideas.

I think that your problem is that you are encoding in the wrong FPS.

Using 3GP converter the MP4's created vary between 15 FPS (Frames Per Second) and 29.97 FPS.

Most video files are encoded 20-30 FPS, so if you encode at 15 FPS, the audio and video are out of sync.

Anything below High quality is not fast enough. If your using the Med setting, then it will be out of sync, use high or above and you'll be fine. (Or do what I did and make a custom .ini to control every setting

Really the guild i downloaded says that the Med settings are:

MEDIUM QUALITY - HOT SPOT (VHS-DVD)
File Size - 63.1 kb/s
Estimated 120 minute movie size - 454.32 MB
Frames per second: 20
Bitrate: 450
Sound: Stereo
Sound bitrate: 32
Quality: This is simply perfect for anything. Its near DVD in quality, and looks stellar at the PSP scteen size (I readjusted and measured with a ruler, though I bet it looks even better on the real system). Subtitles are perfect screen size, and no flickers or fuzziness.

So really all I need to do is up the FPS.

Indeed, just make sure that the FPS that you use to re-encode to MP4 is greater-than or equal to the original files FPS to avoid audio and video being out of sync.

An easy way to check the current FPS of the original file is to right click the file, summary and advanced, it will give all the details you need.

Personally I think that when using 3GP encoder its best to use a custom .ini file, so that you can customise your own settings allowing you to change the exact bit-rate of the different variables, to get them just as you like them.

I customised my own 29.97fps/1050kbps/Stereo 48kbps, which is perfect for my Animes, but doesnt create a huge file like the original setting, the encoded file are about 25MB smaller with no loss in video quality.

If anyone uses 3GP encodeder but doesnt know how to edit .ini files, I could write a little guide, showing the basic. If so just let me know.

Please I would love to know how to make a custom one, and how big is the average size of lets say a 2hr movie?

If using a custom .ini their size wouldn't be "adverage", you could in thiery create it to whatever size you would like.

You could adjust the variables to get the size that you would require, which is kinda the point

, but for an aproximation; my custom movie mode:

QVGA\29.97fps\800kbps\Stereo 48kbps, would create a file about 550MB for a 120 Min, which is a very good size and the video is extreamly good quality.

Basically when I encode and make the custom modes the main thing that "suffers" is the audio. But the audio settings that I use are perfectly fine (well I think so at least) and anyway when I'm gonna be watching the MP4's, the sound will be coming out of my head phones and not a surround sound system!

I'll write up a guide in the next few hour's and place it here in this thread.

As promised I have written a small guide on how to create your own 3GP custom INI file. Its not much but it should be enough for you to work out the basics.

I have included a blank INI file in there as a starting block and you will have to develop it from there.

Using a custom INI, you will be able to customise all of the different settings allowing you to create your MP4 files just how you want them.

Seeing how you've made a guide and all that, I'd like to inquire if you would know if it's possible to do a 2-pass encoding (variable bitrate) using 3GP Converter. I did a search on 3GP and I didn't see a thread where 2-pass encoding was discussed (although I did find the dummy-friendly "3GP Encoder Custom INI Guide").

Also, a couple of questions regarding the other flags:
-ss N : Is this what determines which frame will be used in the M4V?????.THM?
-qscale N : What's the rule here? Is it the higher the number, the better the quality?

I am aware that PSP Video 9 can do 2-pass encodings but right now, I have about 146 files I want to convert to MP4 format and 3GP's drag and drop interface would really make my work a lot easier.
