[IMGW]http://media.1up.com/media?id=3327615[/IMGW]With http://www.1up.com/do/gameOverview?cId=3140558 for the PC inching closer to release, id Software and Splash Damage will soon be expanding their testing process with a public beta. Currently in closed beta testing, the multiplayer shooter will take on 60,000 players for the public beta test, which is expected to begin in the very near future.
The public beta will contain just one playable map, but as with all the maps in Quake Wars, it's a large one. "Sewer," set in the futuristic countryside of Japan, finds the GDF on the offensive against the Strogg, who are holed up in a shielded structure that takes up a large segment of the terrain. The various character classes must work together to take down the shields and hack into the sewer controls to flood out the alien forces. If you choose, you can play as a Strogg operative and work with your compatriots to repel the human offensive.
First details were revealed this weekend in a post on the http://community.enemyterritory.com/index.php?q=node/55, which stresses that this is not a polished demo:
"If you want to just play a game for free you may find it a frustrating experience. This Public Beta is not the Demo - it's not the finished game, but an opportunity to get feedback from a large group of people while testing stability and performance on a wider range of hardware combinations."
Beta slots will first be dealt out to http://www.fileplanet.com subscribers, while the remaining openings will be given to those with free accounts at the file-sharing website. Additional details on the beta test are likely to be revealed on the aforementioned development blog in the coming days. Enemy Territory: Quake Wars for PC is currently slated to hit stores in August, with Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 ports shipping later this year.
