YDL 6.0 is the best version of Linux for the PS3

The question of which distro is best has been asked to death and no one has provided an answer because few people have tried several different distros.

I've thus far tried YDL 6.0, Ubuntu, Xubuntu, Kubuntu and tried to install Gentoo but failed miserably.

If you're a linux expert, Gentoo might be perferable but otherwise...

Out of all of the one's I've tried, YDL 6.0 has by far the best support and most capabilities (with the possible exception of Gentoo).

This link has absolutely everything you need to know to install YDL and maximize it's capabilities. The distro basically installs itself if you have a hdtv.

The only think I have to add to that information is, don't bother install e17 as the desktop environment, go with the much faster Gnome, and if you feel compelled for blazing fast speed, switch over to Fluxbox as explained in the link I posted.

http://www.yellowdog-board.com/viewforum.php?f=19 is a fantastic resource for absolutely everything you need to do on YDL, from getting Wifi working, to getting a bluetooth keyboard and mouse working, to installing emulators for Snes, Genesis and Mame, and even 3d games like Quake and Hexen and getting them to be controllable with the Sixaxis or DS3 over Bluetooth.

And yes YDL 6.0 has wifi working...

To entice you, here's a few videos on youtube showing a few perks of having yellow dog on your ps3 check them out;

Well your right to a point. If you can handle the update files correctly unbuntu has working wifi, blue tooth, as well as udf 2.5 (needed to mount the blu ray disk)

I suggest checking here http://psubuntu.com/

I am currently running fedora 9.
Wifi is broken. (apparently can be repaired if you find a wifi manager, as the driver is native now. Shows up as wlan0)
UDF 2.5 isn't in the updates.
Have to disable a bunch of services to get it up at a decent speed.
install was easy after you configured the kboot to boot your resolution. (don't remmber the cmd)

Fedora 9 fits on ps3 like it fits on a PC. At the book you can notice the 2 cores + 6 spe's (2 big and 6 small penguins)

Gnome is slow than hell. 200MB is less memory than any good desktop linux can use to run smootly. Didnt tried to play with cell sdk.

Why doesn't anyone take advantage of the SPEs to assist the acceleration of other hardware in the system, since the SPEs are made that purpose anyway.

Even worse: Try running a PS2 Emu on Linux. It stutters like hell

Which distribution is the best to run CELL SDK?

I'm using Fedora 7 now but I want to switch to another distribution becouse F7 is incredibly slow :-(

Unfotunately on IBM sites there are only packages of CELL SDK for F7 and RHEL5.1. So I wonder if it is even possible to install it on another distribution.

TIA, regards
