Run x86 software on PS3 ?

too slow i think... i have an idea : people who know about ps3 hardware should make a distro but only thinking in the ps3 this would be great for anyone, and then when the distro will be working a ps3 linux community will be created this is only an idea. great idea dont you think?

I think that, right know, most development of the linux kernel on ps3 (or better, on ps3 hypervisor) is actually done by sony itself, being the hypervisor call not totally documented.

It's a shame because a ps3 it's different from a pc but they are all the same and its way too easier to develop a distro for ps3 than a pc because like i said before ther are all the same and like you said sony have the dev part actually done. Hopefuly when the PS3 get "homebrew'ed" people would consider my idea of this ps3 distro.

quite a number of distributions is already out. Fedora, Yellowdog, OpenSUSE, some Ubuntu clone.

Also, Gentoo runs on PS3 and, since Ubuntu does, so should Debian.

Those are not the same because ther're a ported OS instead of taking the ps3 from the base.. you didnt understood what i mean.

yes, they did port the OS. please, formulate your opinion precisely.

if you mean the very optimized kernel plus the very optimized userland software --- take Gentoo.

This would be so slow, in the amount of time it would take for you to emulate this it would be faster to recode xp to process on the cell architecture.
