OtherOS bld help

Hi, I´m new and recently y bought a PS3, and I want to put Ubuntu 9.04, but I can´t because I need the otheros.bld but the problem is the ver. of my PS3 is the 2.8, and because of that it can´t read it.

we know any otheros.bld that works? whats the problem? thx

I am not sure what your problem is. There are several versions of otheros.bld, one that I like best is petitboot. others like pdaxrom-ng, and others the version from Sony. You need to have one of these named otheros.bld installed from a USB stick or DVD/CDROM on the XMB System menu, Install Other OS.

You also need to format your PS3 Hard Drive to allocate 10GB to OtherOS. Back up all of your game data before that. Once you have done that, put the DVD/CDROM containing your linux iso disk for the PPC into the Blu-Ray disk slot and change from system os PS3 to otheros. Your bootloader should then read the DVD/CDROM and allow you to install the linux distribution. There are many tutorials about this.

Ok, ok, don´t worry, it´s a stupid error of my pendrive, now I can fixed, but the problem now it´s what kind of otheros.bld can ride on Ubuntu ver. 9.04, any idea that you can give me? Thx for the troubles.

You should read the instructions posted on http://psubuntu.com/wiki/InstallationInstructions.

If your unbuntu distribution comes with a bootloader use that, found under /PS3/otheros/otheros.bld. Otherwise download petitboot from this site or another. Rename it otheros.bld. Put it on the pendrive under /PS3/otheros/. Put it in the USB slot and install it.
