Need help streaming rip to server...

Hello all,

I have Windows Home server and i have alot of storage on it. Im using gigabit ethernet in my network and here is the goal:

I would like to Backup my Blueray discs and rip them from my PS3 directly to my home server. I have tryed using the SAK and well it didnt work. So I would like to try using linux to hopefully make this work a bit better!

I am wondering what distro of linux to use for this and what else I may have to do to do this? I would like to stream it since I can just re-encode it on the server and make more use of it. Is this impossible? If not please help me. If it is impossible what would be the best distro to use for an external HDD rip?

It is possible to dump PS3 Blu-Ray imaes to ISO files via a Linux install.
I think the easiest one is YDL http://www.terrasoftsolutions.com/support/downloads/

If you have a 60GB HDD PS3, you may dump images directly via the following command:

dd if=/dev/cdrom of=/imagename.img

The most noob friendly method to access the storage is as follows...

* share the folder in XP using simple sharing and everyone full access.
* create a folder in mnt and mount the sahre to it in ps3
- mkdir /mnt/storage
- mount -t cifs /ipaddress/sharename /mnt/storage

And then enjoy.. If the e command for mount doesnt work.. you probably need to use user name password .. google "samba mount syntax" to get the exact command for that.

Detailed command:

mount -t cifs //ipaddress/sharename /mnt/storage -o username=your_username,password=your_password
