Natively Running Windows

I have not read up on the PS3 scene, until just now, in a long while, so what I'm about to say may have already been done.

I think there is a good possibility that windows can be natively run on the ps3, using Windows NT 4.0 PPC. It was written for the IBM power architecture. So, that source code has leaked. The ability to get this to run could open up more possibilities in the homebrew world, embedded applications and such. Another alternative is wait until ReactOS is stable on PPC, and maybe use that.

What are everyone's thoughts?

As I stated before, NT 4.0 source code was leaked, as was Windows 2000. Upon further research, I feel that adding code from Windows 2000 to NT 4.0 would allow it to run Directx 9.0c on a PPC architecture natively. I am going to continue this and pursue getting this to actually run. My biggest problem will be my unfamiliarity with the PS3 architecture, even if I can viably compile the OS I will need to learn how otheros boots and how otheros build files are written. Maybe someone can help me out with understanding that.

I know the ps3 runs in a reduced mode in otheros, but directx 9.0c can make running windows games possible without it being too slow (not crysis of course).

Why on earth would you say that? Especially since the source code is available and could be reworked.

because 1) MS source code is not out there for any DECENT OS. 2) MS source is X86 for the most part. there is X64, but good luck getting that. 3) the cell prossesor is x64 PPC, thats not even CLOSE to being workable on the MS source. 4) good luck converting all the MS source you may find to PPC cell language.

if you have 8 years to rework the MS source to get it to run Nativity on PPC Cell possessor on x64 arch then by all means show us. but im betting no one out there has the time nor the care to do so. not to mention if you publicly released said source code or a reworked version of it Micro$oft would sue the shit out of you 3 ways till sunday. ive already had them breathing down my neck for releasing a Win Mobile stuff. its not fun.

There is an open-source-Windows-clone out there called ReactOS, i don't know if there's a ppc version planned but maybe it'll help you: http://www.reactos.org/

Windows NT may be old but it is decent, and it would give the ps3 directx capabilities. Right now I'm thinking about getting it to run on the ps3 with directx8, but then hopefully with directx 9.0c borrowed from windows 2000. With NT minimal requirements, it would leave more resources to be used by applications run under nt even though the ps3 is run in reduced mode.

Directx needs a valid 3d accelerator to be installed in order to even run in software mode. and i dont think your going to find driver support even in x86 for the nvidia gpu for NT. and then you would have to convert it to PPC. like i said. if you got 8 years and the time go for it. but there is a reason why no one has bothered to get NT running even on there PPC macs. its not worht the effort, and probably cant be done to the extent your looking to go for anyways. also take into consideration that directx 9.0c has never been released in the PPC architecture. see what im getting at now?

I know a driver for the rsx is realistically not feasible, but for experimentation purposes I am stuck on getting NT running. I'll post back with whatever I find, it might be easier than thought though, and it would give a different view into the ps3.
