Connect PS3 To PC Via USB?

Can you connect your ps3 to your pc via a usb cable and transfer files this way? If so, how would I go about doing that? Thanx!

I would just recommend using the red kawa file server from the ps3 download section of the site and use that

Format your usb hdd with FAT32 and you're ready to go.

Yep this is the best option..

The red kawa file server would also help, as if you have a gigabit network at home you can shift files tremedously fast.

I would say the easiest way is to use a fat32 formatted drive or get an 8GB flash drive that works well for me.

Not if you look at the Specification of USB

Not if you look at the Specification of USB

USB is a BUS system with one master and up to 127 slaves. It is not possible to have two masters on one bus (PS3 + PC). In order to prevent you from puging more than one master to a bus, USB-plugs can only be plugged unidirectional.

I have seen implementations which were ignorig the specs(or are using a converter between two busses such as the Acion Replay USB dongle for the PS2), but in order to archieve this, real hardwarehacking is necessary which cant be done since there is no hardwarecess on the PS3 yet.

(Personally I think it would be to much work to Code something like this since there is gigabit ethernet that is working pretty failure proof and is faster than USB2.0)

I think you are asking about direct link via USB such as the Tornado. The tornado only works with Windows systems. (http://www.thetornado.com)

I would suggest setting up a shared network drive between your PS3 and your PC.

I followed the instructions here: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=288534

and can access a shared drive on my Vista computer from my PS3 linux.

yea hooking the ps3 to pc internal HD through usb is possible, but its a lot easier to use an external 2tb nfts hdd running linux and copy straight to that then hook it up to comp when ready.

OK, since you posted this in the PS3 Linux forum, I assume you want to transfer files from your PS3 Linux setup. I'm also assuming you want to transfer to a Windows PC.

I think it can be done. There's a module in Linux which is called usbnet, which emulates a network interface through the USB port. You can set up something similar on Windows using RNDIS. Using the both, you can then talk via tcp/ip through the usb cable, and use windows filesharing to share data between the two.

It'd probably need a little playing around with, but it should be possible.
