How to solve Metal Gear Solid 4 Act 4 PS3 JailBreak issues

    Sponsored Links
This has been a headache for a lot of people including myself and when I succeeded, I decided to share the guide to play Metal Gear Solid 4 through the MGS1 section in the beginning of Act 4 and the rest of Act 4. This is for those who are still stuck

    My setup is as follows:

    - Fat PS3 80 gig
    - JB with iPod video 5g
    - Hermes v 4b payload
    - Open Manager 2.1 I

    1. Start PS3 in normal mode (do not jailbreak)
    2. Delete MGS4 game data from game utility.
    3. Start any other game in normal mode with game disc (Not MGS4 because it will re-install game data)
    4. Exit game (back to XMB)
    5. Shut down the PS3 and switch off (or unplug with PS3 Slim)
    6. Restart PS3 in jailbreak mode (with Hermes v 4b payload)
    7. Launch MGS4 in patch mode and install game data
    8. Play MGS4

This should allow you to play through the whole game including through Act 3 into and through Act 4 without MGS4 hanging or throwing you back to the XMB in the beginning of Act 4

If you are thrown back to the XMB after Act 3, then try steps 3-8. Launch MGS4. Load the last savegame and you should be able to pay the rest of the game.

    Hope this helps

TBH, I don't know. I assume it resets something internally to enable your PS3 to play the PS1 section in the game. In my experience, if I don't start another original game in normal mode, then the game crashes everytime.

My MGS4 shows a black screen when booted in patched mode, so i'm unable to do steps 7-8.

Didn't work for me. I have a ps3slim 250gb and used an original MGS4 disc. This could be a problem in the game itself coz I read forums addressing similar issues dating back to 2008-09 when there was no jailbreaking PS3s.

Anyways, I tried using the original disc, then backed it up to hdd, tried the above method, nothing worked so I just skipped that part using a save I got from the net. It skips the part where the PS1 stage is emulated. Doesn't skip much except a very small cutscene where snake wakes up from a dream.

I would recommend using a save to skip that part.

Ι used the same method but with Rogero 7.7 and Hermes V4.
